7 Things To Know About Julia Fox, Kanye West's New Girlfriend
Rapper Kanye West seems to have found his beautiful, dark, twisted fantasy in new girlfriend Julia Fox. Model-turned-actress Fox is seeing her popularity explode after being spotted out and about with West, with many people becoming intrigued by her bombshell looks and tell-it-like-it-is attitude.
Fox and West apparently met on New Year’s Eve in Miami, but they’ve already had several well-documented date nights. Rather than play coy about whether they’re an item, Fox wrote a gushing review of their extravagant second date for Interview magazine complete with an NYC photoshoot.
“After dinner Ye had a surprise for me. I mean, I’m still in shock,” Julia wrote in Interview. “Ye had an entire hotel suite full of clothes. It was every girl’s dream come true. It felt like a real Cinderella moment. I don’t know how he did it, or how he got all of it there in time. But I was so surprised. Like, who does things like this on a second date? Or any date! Everything with us has been so organic. I don’t know where things are headed but if this is any indication of the future I’m loving the ride.”
This relationship with Fox is West’s most public since his split from Kim Kardashian last year. Post-split, West was linked to model Irina Shayk, but he kept his profile low and even appeared to ask his ex-wife to “run right back to me” during a concert in December.
Like West, Fox wears many hats as a creative, having worked in fashion, modeling, film, photography, and art. Keep reading to learn more about Julia Fox.
1. She’s an actress who had her first film role at age 29.
If you feel like you’ve seen Fox before, you probably have. She starred opposite Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems, one of the buzziest movies of 2019. It was her debut film acting role. Fox had her first taste of the national spotlight after receiving praise for playing Julia De Fiore, the mistress of Sandler’s character.
Since then, Fox has been in a handful of movies, including No Sudden Move, a critically acclaimed gangster movie starring big names including Benicio Del Toro and Brendan Fraser.
2. She’s not afraid to call out deadbeat dads.
Fox made headlines in 2021 for calling out her ex-husband (and father of her son) for being a “dead beat dad.” Fox married pilot Peter Artemiev in 2018, and they welcomed son Valentino in January 2021. However, the two have since split. Tensions flared during the holidays when Fox called Artemiev a “dead beat alcoholic drug addict dad” on her Instagram stories and begged him to be a better father, Page Six reported.
“TAKE CARE OF YOUR KIDS MEN!!! AND OTHER MEN, HOLD DEAD BEAT DADS ACCOUNTABLE!!! It’s damn near 2022 how can u say u care about women and mothers and single mothers and ur out here enabling the behavior!!!” she wrote.
Fox has since apologized for the rant on her podcast, saying she didn’t paint the full picture and praising Artemiev for being supportive throughout her pregnancy.
“Something changed when Valentino was born. [Peter] just did not really step up to the plate in the way that I wanted,” she said. “We are going to work on a weekly schedule. Things are looking up.”
3. She was born in Milan, Italy.
Fox was born in Milan, Italy, but grew up in New York City. Her mother is Italian, but she was raised by her American father in Manhattan’s Upper East Side. However, she says it wasn’t a posh experience.
“The first thing my dad did when I got to New York was walk me to the corner and point to the street sign. He was like, ‘OK, this is where you live. If anything happens, this is where you live.’ Then he kind of just sent me off in the world, and I had to figure it out from there,” Fox told The Hollywood Reporter in 2020.
When she was old enough, she worked at a shoe store and an ice cream store, but she also fell in with friends who did a lot of drinking and drugs.
“It’s kind of a miracle that I’m OK because a lot of the people I grew up with aren’t doing so well. They’re still on drugs or in jail. A lot of them died,” Fox told The Hollywood Reporter. She has credited her ex-husband for helping her get sober.
4. She once did a Barbie-themed photoshoot with Pete Davidson.
Before Uncut Gems, Fox worked as a model, doing shoots for Coach, Diesel, CR Fashion Book, and more. But one of her modeling gigs, in particular, is resurfacing – a Barbie and Ken-themed shoot she did with comedian Pete Davidson.
Why is that significant? Well, Davidson is now dating Kim Kardashian, Kanye West’s ex-wife. If you’re part of the 98% of the population (I made that statistic up) who is continually amazed by Davidson’s ability to punch above his weight, check out this Pulitzer-worthy investigation of his dating life by Evie Magazine.
Fox downplayed the coincidence on a Jan. 13 episode of her podcast, “Forbidden Fruits,” but even she had to admit: “It’s meta.”
5. She made an art exhibit featuring her own blood.
Yes, you read that right – her 2017 art exhibit “R.I.P. Julia Fox” featured her own blood painted on silk. “Yes, it’s my blood. I wanted the show to be as authentic and personal as possible. I extracted the blood with a syringe and used the syringe to paint on the silk. It wasn’t as bad as it seems,” Fox said in a 2017 interview.
Fox has undertaken numerous creative endeavors, including self-published photography books and the short film Fantasy Girls.
“Basically, I went to Reno knowing I wanted to make a short film, just not knowing exactly what,” Fox told Paper Magazine in 2019. “And then I met all these young girls between the ages of 13-15 and I knew they were stars; I knew they would be my stars, I just didn't know for what. After speaking with the guardians, I found out how child sex trafficking and kidnappings are so frequent there that they don't even report them anymore, so I knew that I could draw attention to this cause I'm passionate about.”
6. She says motherhood changed her.
Fox’s son Valentino turns one in January 2022. She’s openly discussed how having a child changed her priorities and even brought him along on the red carpet at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.
“I feel like I really changed when Valentino was born. I suddenly wasn’t the same person. I didn’t really want to talk about the same things, and I didn’t care about the same things. The validation that I looked for that Peter always had given me, suddenly my son gave me that,” she said on a Jan. 13 episode of “Forbidden Fruits.”
7. There are “no labels” on her relationship with Kanye… yet.
On the latest episode of her podcast “Forbidden Fruits,” Fox said she and West don’t have any “labels” on their relationship for now.
“What’s really exciting about him is that any idea can become a reality. Anything is possible, any dream is possible, and I love that. He’s just such a doer…He’s really a genius,” she said.
She revealed that she recently got to listen to West recording new songs with rapper Future, saying the unreleased music is “insane.”
When her cohost asked her to respond to rumors that her relationship with West is a publicity stunt, Fox was unfazed.
“There’s always people that think that every single celebrity scandal is a setup. I personally don’t,” she said.
