Amber Heard Admits She Brought James Franco To Her Home The Day Before She Filed For Divorce From Johnny Depp
The Amber Heard and Johnny Depp defamation lawsuit is still underway, and this week Heard endured cross-examination about her marriage to Depp.
Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation because of a 2018 Washington Post op-ed in which she wrote about surviving domestic abuse. She never mentioned Depp by name, but he and his lawyers are claiming it was clear that the article was about him, and as a result he lost important work in Hollywood. We've already heard Depp's direct testimony and cross-examinations over the last few weeks, but this week it was Heard's turn to get on the stand and tell her side of the story.
Amber Heard Admits She Brought James Franco to Her Home
Heard was already caught staging a crime scene and manipulating photos of her bruises to try and make Depp out to be a violent partner, and there was already speculation that she had an affair with actor James Franco while she was still married to Depp. In fact, Franco was scheduled to depose in January of this year to discuss what he witnessed in Heard and Depp's marriage.
There was security footage from May 22, 2016 that showed Franco and Heard getting into an elevator to the penthouse where she and Depp lived together. This was the day after Heard and Depp had a huge fight and he allegedly threw his phone at her and hit her in the face. Naturally, Heard was asked about this security footage – and she admitted that she did in fact bring Franco to her shared home with Depp that night.
You can see in the security footage that they're leaning on each other's shoulders. Franco is wearing a hat and a backpack as if he is trying to hide his identity. The very next day Heard filed for divorce from Depp, citing irreconcilable differences.
At first she tried to make it seem like she didn't remember having Franco over, but once the footage was shown in the court, Heard confirmed that she was in fact going to the penthouse with Franco. "That's where I lived, yes," she said. Depp's attorney noted that she was bringing Franco up to her home past 11 p.m. that night. Heard said she wasn't sure of the time but "it looked like that."
Heard said in her testimony that the two were "close" friends since they worked on two movies together. She also claimed that Depp was unnecessarily jealous of her and always accused her of having affairs. She said her then-husband "was mad at me for taking the job with James Franco. He hated, hated James Franco and was already accusing me of kind of secretly having a thing with him in my past, since we had done Pineapple Express together."
She never confirmed whether they had sex, and the attorney never pressed her on it either. In this same cross-examination, Heard also claimed that Depp wasn't able to look at her "because he's guilty."
"He knows he's lying," she added. "Otherwise, why can't he look at me? I survived that man and I'm here, and I can look at him."
