Ben Affleck's Dunkin' Donuts Super Bowl Commercial Was A Huge Favorite, And Jennifer Lopez Even Made An Appearance
The 57th Super Bowl game got everyone talking about Rihanna's sky-high performance and mediocre commercials. But there was one winner that stood out above the rest: Ben Affleck working at Dunkin' Donuts in Massachusetts (and Jennifer Lopez showing up).
There are always high expectations for Super Bowl ads and entertainment. Rihanna and her mesmerizingly coordinated dancers were the talk of the town, but the Ben Affleck Dunkin' Donuts ad with Jennifer Lopez was one of the most memorable moments of the night. The star couple has been in headline news for months on end, whether it's about their rekindled romance, Ben's general discomfort in any and all public settings, and that truly awkward moment of the Grammys where J-Lo seemingly snapped at her hubby on live TV. But putting all that aside, Ben brought some great, old-fashioned Massachusetts humor to a Dunkin' Donuts in Medford, MA.
Ben Affleck's Dunkin' Donuts Super Bowl Commercial Was a Huge Favorite, and Jennifer Lopez Even Made an Appearance
Ben puts on the whole Dunkin' Donuts uniform and headset to work as a drive-through cashier in a Massachusetts town just several miles north of Boston. He interacts with a range of customers, one of whom doesn't even seem to recognize him, and tries to sell some extra donuts for a good deal. A couple individuals seem shocked to see Ben's face as they pull up to pay for their donuts and coffee. He takes a selfie with a fan and seems in good spirits.
That's when a very familiar face appears at the window. "What are you doing here?" Jennifer asks Ben as she drives up in a silver van, shocked that she suddenly found him there after he told her he'd be at work all day. "You're embarrassing me in front of my friends," he responds under his breath. As he's telling his coworkers that he has to leave for the day, Jennifer has one last request: "Bring me a glazed!"
This commercial was surely filmed before the Grammys, but the interaction we see in the ad can't help but remind people about what transpired that night at the Grammy Awards. When J-Lo discovers Ben at the Dunkin' drive-thru, she essentially scolds him and he has to sneak out of the fast-food location with his tail between his legs to avoid getting punished in front of everyone, but not before Jen demands her favorite donut in front of his "friends."
The commercial is funny, as it's clearly meant to be. Ben puts on his thick Boston accent and seems bummed that one customer had no idea who he even was. He even made the same face of exhaustion and apathy that he made while smoking a cigarette outside in that famously used meme. But after watching it seem like J-Lo berated Ben on live TV at the Grammy Awards, people are jokingly wondering if there is a pattern happening.
Ben Affleck also showed up in a couple other places during the commercial segments of the game. He appeared in the teaser trailer for The Flash as Batman and Bruce Wayne, as well as in the preview for the film he directed and starred in alongside Matt Damon and Viola Davis, Air, a movie about Nike pursuing a partnership with the legendary basketball player Michael Jordan in his prime.
Looks like this is a big year for Ben and his career. The Flash is released on June 16 and you can catch Air on April 5.
