Blake Lively And Anna Kendrick To Return For "A Simple Favor 2"

Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced that A Simple Favor 2 is in the works, with the original cast returning, including Paul Feig as the director. Lionsgate is co-producing the movie, which generated $97M from a $20M budget.

A Simple Favor – based on a 2017 novel by Darcey Bell – tells the story of a widowed and single mom named Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick). As a vlogger in Connecticut, Stephanie is jealous of her more successful best friend, Emily Nelson (Blake Lively).

Emily has it all: She's the PR director of a fashion company, she has a beautiful family, and she lives a luxurious lifestyle. One day, she goes missing – causing Stephanie to take matters into her own hands by looking into her friend's disappearance.

According to the consensus on Rotten Tomatoes, the comedy thriller is described as "Twisty, twisted, and above all simply fun, A Simple Favor casts a stylish mommy noir spell strengthened by potent performances from Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively."

This time, the iconic characters will return and fly to Capri, Italy, for Emily's glamorous wedding to an Italian businessman. "Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square," Variety adds.

Kendrick told E! News on January 17, 2023, that the sequel's script was "so good. "They did such a great job of, in some ways, making her sort of older and wiser," she revealed. "But, at the same time, there are qualities that a person just can't really change about themselves."

The Pitch Perfect star adds that her character's "got like a little bit more savvy in her," however, "she's still Stephanie at the end of the day."

Cameras roll this spring and will likely be released on Prime Video in 2025.
