The eight-time Grammy winner and Idol Season 4 champion has been announced as the newest judge on the show’s esteemed panel, replacing Katy Perry for its 23rd season. Underwood will join country superstar Luke Bryan and music legend Lionel Richie when the season premieres on March 9, 2025.

This marks a full-circle moment for Underwood, who skyrocketed to fame after winning American Idol in 2005. Her powerhouse vocals and girl-next-door charm captured the hearts of millions, and she has since cemented herself as one of the most successful artists to emerge from the show.

Reflecting on her new role, she expressed excitement about guiding emerging talents, stating, "I hope to offer honest yet kind critiques, understanding the importance of nurturing participants' dreams."

This announcement follows Underwood's iconic performance at President Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025. Despite technical difficulties that disrupted the planned musical accompaniment, Underwood delivered a powerful a cappella rendition of "America the Beautiful," inviting the audience to join in.

With a career spanning nearly two decades, Underwood has sold over 85 million records worldwide, earned countless awards—including eight Grammys and 17 Billboard Music Awards—and delivered numerous chart-topping hits like "Before He Cheats," "Jesus, Take the Wheel," and "Blown Away." She’s also been a staple at the Grand Ole Opry and has dominated the country music scene with her signature blend of powerhouse ballads and arena anthems.

Beyond her music, Underwood is known for her strong faith, philanthropy, and dedication to health and fitness. She’s a devoted wife to former NHL player Mike Fisher and a proud mom to two sons, Isaiah and Jacob.
