Chad Michael Murray Has Turned Down Roles Because Of His Christian Faith And Maintains A "Very Traditional Home Life" With His Family
If you're a Millennial, you probably had a poster of Chad Michael Murray on your wall at some point in your adolescence. But you haven't seen much of him lately on the big screen, and that's for a good reason.
Gilmore Girls and Cinderella Story star Chad Michael Murray has had a lot of opportunities over the last couple decades to star in various movies and TV shows, but he has turned down a lot of them. He opened up to Fox News Digital recently about why he has been laying low and being picky about the work he takes on.
Chad Michael Murray Has Been Turning Down Roles That Don't Align with His Christian Faith
Murray hasn't talked publicly about his faith before, but he shared that he keeps it close to his heart when he considers which roles to take. “I stick to the things I believe in,” Murray said. “Let’s just say a piece of material were to come across my desk, which has happened plenty of times over the last 22 years, that I don’t necessarily feel is what I believe or what I’m selling – then that’s not for me.”
He says he would rather turn down something that he doesn't "believe in" because it would "destroy it for everybody else involved" if he wasn't fully invested in the role. “If you don’t fully love and embrace the character that you are inhabiting, it will show on screen. I always want to give the people that I’m working with and the people who are going to watch the movie, the most of me,” he continued.
Observing his religion is more than just talk for Murray. He has a morning routine that he does before he steps onto set.
"I get up every day and I put that spiritual armor on, read the Bible and do some devotionals, and then get ready to go to work," Murray said.
"I feel stronger and safer walking onto my sets every day knowing that I have God with me every day. Jesus is there with me every day," he added. "When you have that comfort that you just feel safe, you feel different, you feel the opportunity to handle more, your shoulders are bigger, you can carry more weight."
Murray also talked about how he doesn't go anywhere without his family. He and his wife Sarah Roemer "keep the pack together," whether he's on set or traveling for work. He may be on set and they're at a beach nearby, but he doesn't travel anywhere without them.
"We have a very traditional home life. We're not people who are typically out and going out," he admitted. "I'm not a good hobnobber. It's not my strong suit. I've gotta be honest. I'm more of a homebody."
It's refreshing to hear that one of the most beloved heartthrobs in Hollywood is so family oriented. He and his wife have two children.
You can catch Murray in Fortress: Sniper's Eye, in which he stars alongside Bruce Willis, who recently retired from acting.
