Dakota Johnson Dubbed A “Mean Girl” In Madame Web Interviews
Was Dakota Johnson a “mean girl” to her Madame Web co-stars Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor?

Madame Web star Dakota Johnson apparently gives off “mean girl energy” in her interviews.
When sitting down with Entertainment Tonight, Johnson revealed that three of her co-stars (Sydney Sweeney, Isabela Merced, and Celeste O'Connor) bonded – but alluded to not being included in the trio.
When ET's Ash Crossan asked the actress what her relationship was like with the three women on set, Johnson responded, "It was very similar [to Madame Web's mentor-like relationship with the girls]. I adore them, and I think they're so talented, and it was so fun to have them around."
"And the three of them really bonded. And then there was me," she laughed.
Some people assume that maybe Johnson is the problem. "It really says something if you're the only person not getting along with others," @cinema1exis commented.
@marceladunn added, "It’s like mean Girls plot."
Numerous videos have also gone viral depicting Johnson appearing unenthused during interviews.
And, when Johnson appeared on Phase Zero, the host surprised her with a Madame Web comic book.
"Wowee," the actress said as she played with her earring. As someone who isn't a fan of comics myself, I would probably react the same way.
The comment section hilariously pointed out how Johnson gives off the vibe of someone who had to be there, not because she wanted to be. @WillieWigginsWagon on the platform wrote, "She said, 'I am contractually obligated to be here and I will do the bare minimum.'" Then again, isn’t that most celebrities on press tours? Cillian Murphy doesn’t seem too excited about his interviews, but he gets all the love.
Unfortunately, these theories of the star being mean were only fueled when her co-stars said they were left on “read” by Johnson.
In Dakota Johnson’s Defense
But maybe Johnson isn't actually rude, mean, or boring; maybe she's just introverted and doesn't care about coming off as bubbly on camera. She also strikes me as someone unafraid to say what's on her mind.
Remember when Ellen Degeneres asked Johnson why she wasn't invited to her birthday party? The blue-eyed brunette looked at her and said, “Actually, no, that’s not the truth, Ellen. Ask everybody. Ask Jonathan, your producer.” Johnson called her out, while others may have playfully teased Degeneres on a live set to avoid tension.
“Last year, on the show, you gave me a bunch of sh*t for not inviting you,” she added.
Standing up for yourself and being brutally honest should not be mistaken for mean girl antics.
And as for her not hanging out with her co-stars, I'm not surprised – there's almost a 10-year age gap between her and the three women. Johnson is 34, while the rest are in their early to mid-20s. She also isn't obligated to be close with her co-workers.
Lastly, it's evident that her latest film turned out to be a train wreck, so it makes sense why she's not super excited about her press tours. Her low energy is reminiscent of Peter Dinklage's attitude when he was asked about the Game of Thrones finale. Johnson's blasé disposition during her press tours could be attributed to her disappointment with the poorly received film, and can you blame her?
When Johnson was asked if she had seen Madame Web, she revealed that she hadn't. "I don’t know when I’ll see it," she says. "Someday."
