Sources have told Deadline that Dakota Johnson, who recently starred in The Lost Daughter, is being considered for the lead role of Madame Web in the same-titled movie. This hasn't been confirmed yet by Sony, but people are already getting excited about the possibility.

Dakota Johnson Might Play Madame Web

You've probably never heard of Madame Web unless you're a comic book fan (we hadn't). She's a character that's seen in the Spider-Man comics, but she has never made an appearance in a live-action Marvel movie.

Madame Web is an older character with a medical condition called myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disorder in which antibodies diminish the communication between the nerves and muscles. This results in physical weakness and lack of control of muscles in the body, so she's connected to a spider web-like life support system. Madame Web has psychic sensory powers including telepathy, clairvoyance, and prescience. However, she has never fought any villains in the comic books, so it will be interesting to see what choices Sony makes with the character's storyline.

S.J. Clarkson is going to direct Madame Web and the script will be written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, who were responsible for Morbius, a Spider-Man spinoff.

Again, we haven't heard confirmation from Sony or Dakota herself on whether she will become Madame Web on the big screen, but it's an exciting prospect nonetheless.
