A couple of years ago, Demi Lovato identified as nonbinary and used they/them pronouns. Now, she’s back to she/her, looking healthier and happier than ever. While the internet is quick to attack the former Disney Channel star, Lovato’s evolution over the years has been anything but easy. When she was only a teen, she battled drug addiction, struggled with mental health, was sexually assaulted and struggled with body image issues. In 2018, the Camp Rock star suffered a near-fatal overdose, which became a wake-up call.

In 2021, Lovato came out as nonbinary, adopting they/them pronouns and went for a more androgynous look. Around this time, she was also making headlines for her outspoken views on “woke” social issues, even singing to ghosts "to help them overcome trauma caused by sexism in a past life." You read that right.

But over the weekend, X user @dom_lcure posted a side-by-side comparison of the singer: one photo from her buzz-cut, they/them era, and another of her now, looking more like the Lovato fans first fell in love with. "🔥🚨DEVELOPING: Hollywood actress and Grammy award-winning singer Demi Lovato is going viral after uploading a photo of her transformation," he wrote in the caption. "Lovato used to embrace the woke mind virus and has transitioned back to womanhood."

From “Woke” to Womanhood?

Lovato tried something, or rather, she fell for an ideology she realized wasn’t for her, returning to what felt right and natural. The “woke mind virus” is curable, according to some people on X.

"Soooo this was just a phase," someone wrote on the new photo of Lovato.

Meanwhile, a fan commented, "her aura is so back."

Lovato’s recent photos show her glowing, confident, and at peace.

She/Her Again—and Thriving

Lovato herself has spoken about her decision to go back to she/her pronouns. Back in 2023, she told GQ Hype Spain: “I constantly had to educate people and explain why I identified with those pronouns. It was absolutely exhausting.” She added that she still felt a level of fluidity but ultimately found it easier to return to she/her. Since then, her personal and professional life seem to have improved.

Her relationship with musician Jordan "Jutes" Lutes, which went public in August 2022, may have been another factor in her happiness. A supportive, loving relationship seems to have grounded her. Being happy in love does have a way of making people look even better.

Lovato has also opted for a more glamorous Dita Von Teese look. She now resembles the classic beauties of Hollywood. Fans have noted that she looks "younger," "healthier," and overall, more like the confident superstar they remembered from the early 2010s.
