Ariana Grande just released her latest album, Eternal Sunshine, and fans believe some of its songs are about her divorce from Dalton Gomez.

In case you're out of the loop, here's a quick summary: On July 17, 2023, it was announced that Gomez and Grande were "heading for divorce" after being together for three years. A few days later, multiple outlets reported that the "7 Rings" singer was dating her Wicked co-star, Ethan Slater (we'll get back to him later).

On September 18, TMZ announced that Grande had officially filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences." Their divorce was settled a month later, with Gomez receiving $1.2 million from Grande.

For months, fans speculated about Grande and Gomez's split way before their divorce was revealed, with some theorizing that Gomez cheated on the Wicked star. Sources suggested that the ex-couple's interactions dwindled as movie production kicked into full gear in December 2022. A TMZ report hinted that they were already having marriage struggles before the start of filming.

In April 2023, a girl on TikTok claimed that she hung out with Dalton. "Two weeks ago, I was hanging out with Ariana Grande's husband," the anonymous girl said in a now-deleted video.

These claims have not been confirmed, and Gomez has yet to speak out about the allegations.

Eternal Sunshine Lyrics and Cheating Rumors

These theories have only been fueled by Grande's heartbreaking song "Eternal Sunshine." The lyrics hint at the alleged infidelity. "I've never seen someone lie like you do / So much, even you start to think it's true," Grande sings. The chorus continues to provide more insight, saying, "Yet you played me like Atari / Now it's like I'm lookin' in the mirror / Hope you feel alright when you're in her."

To make it worse, fans believe that the alleged cheater had the affair in Grande's bed: "So now we play our separate scenes / Now, now she’s in my bed, laying on your chest/ Now I’m in my head / Wondering how it ends."

In "Dont Wanna Break Up Again," Grande sings about being emotionally neglected: "I fall asleep cryin' / You turn up the TV / You don't wanna hear me / One more sleepless night / Big day in the morning / So, I take my time to self-soothe." Ouch.

In the second verse, it goes, "I made it so easy / Spent so much on therapy / Blamed my own codependency / But you didn't even try / When you finally did, it was the wrong time."

Was Dalton Gomez an emotionally absent husband? Or was Grande singing about someone else?

Grande's album has made Gomez's name trend on X (formerly Twitter). "Dalton Gomez, come outside. I just wanna talk," wrote @ifyouknevbetter.

"if dalton gomez has 1 hater that would be me," adds @allurequinn.

Ariana Grande Still Receives Backlash

However, not everyone has Grande's support – because some people believe she ruined her co-star's marriage. The Daily Mail claimed that Grande "hung out with Ethan Slater's wife, Lilly Jay, and baby while having an affair with him," and that Jay had insinuated she was not a "girl's girl." Then, TMZ later said that sources claimed that Jay had no idea where these "various media leaks" came from.

No one knows what happened for sure, but it's evident on social media that tons of people are still upset at the singer. "but she also homewrecked so not upset about her getting cheated on," wrote a man named Christian on TikTok. "What goes around comes around."

@therealests1imshady on the platform commented, "aw :/ well at least she wasnt going through this with a NEWBORN."

"Ariana is the same tho," said @cookedbyjackie.

"I have a hard time feeling bad for her. She's been the other woman so many times... says @skincarewithkerr. "my sympathy just can't be wasted on her."

“I’m talking what’s mine,'" shares @reputanush13. "Ariana Grande is a PROUD homewrecker."

In December, Grande spoke out amid the backlash she faced for dating Slater. “I’ve never felt more pride or joy or love while simultaneously feeling so deeply misunderstood by people who don’t know me, who piece whispers together and make what they want out of me and their assumptions of my life,” she said. “I have learned how much more important one of those things is than the other.”

“I am wrapping you all in a cocoon of love and wishing you a very happy, healthy new year,” the singer later concluded. “If you ever feel misunderstood or alone, just remember that it will pass and you are not that. Take a deep breath and know that you are so incredibly loved.”
