Did Francia Raísa End Her Friendship With Selena Gomez Because Of Alcohol? Here's Everything You Need To Know
A post stating that Selena Gomez and her kidney donor, Francia Raísa, stopped being friends because of alcohol is now circulating online. But what's the truth?

On May 5, 2023, the popular social media account @Daily_Loud announced that Selena Gomez and her kidney donor, Francia Raísa, stopped being friends due to alcohol. "Selena Gomez & her kidney donor Francia Raisa are reportedly not friends anymore because Selena drinks alcohol," they wrote.
The post was seen 33 million times, garnering over 100,000 likes and thousands of retweets – which is unfortunate, because Francia never said that alcohol was the reason behind her and Selena's separation. In fact, when TMZ spotted Francia out for a walk with her dog earlier this month, they asked her multiple questions about the singer, but she refused to give them any details.
It seems the rumor began in 2022 when TMZ reported that Francia's dad, El Cucuy, alleged the two best friends called it quits because of alcohol. "When Selena was drinking, Francia told her she didn't have the kidney so she could keep drinking, so she could put it to waste," he reportedly says in a translated video. But maybe we should take El Cucuy's claims with a grain of salt, considering the radio host doesn't appear to have the cleanest record.
Back in March, Selena reflected on receiving a kidney transplant from her best friend in 2017 due to complications from lupus. Her statements came after facing backlash for not including Francia in her documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me. "My best friend. Her name is Francia. She said, 'No, I am absolutely getting tested,'" the Only Murders in the Building star revealed. "And within three days, she went to get tested, and she was a match. And it was one of those moments where I felt watched over. I know I was so so so lucky."
The "Love You Like a Love Song" singer continued, "I understand that that doesn't happen for a lot of people, and I know the outcome of some of those situations and how serious they are, so I do not take it lightly that it's happened to me that way." Selena explained that she is "in debt" to Francia thanks to the transplant. "I will never ever, ever be more in debt to a person than Francia. The idea of someone not even second-guessing to be a donor was unbelievably overwhelming."
Yet, while Selena receives lots of support during this ordeal, Francia has faced an onslaught of hate from her fans. "I think the one that probably hurt the most was, 'I hope someone goes up your p**sy and rips out your other kidney you f**king whore,'" she said about a comment she got.
The How I Met Your Father star adds that "in no way, shape or form does condone bullying, especially Selena." "She literally has a whole nonprofit dedicated to mental health," Francia said, referring to Rare Impact Fund. "The fact that I'm now being bullied as I am, it's messing with me mentally. To me, it's not what anyone wants for someone. She's literally out there saying, 'Please stop,' so I don't understand others that are also being antagonized online."
The fact of the matter is, we don't know the reason why Francia and Selena ended their friendship – and it's possible we'll never know. We don't need to know. Celebrities and their circles have the right to keep personal matters private. "I'm very happy. I'm living my life. I'm sending love to everyone. I understand. I've been a hardcore fan of people growing up myself. I totally, totally, totally get it, but it's not nice," Francia said. "I would say, not just with me, but with anyone, please stop."
