Dr. Fauci Said Only Infected People Need To Wear Masks And More In Newly Released Emails
Thousands of pages of emails from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s correspondence during the early months of the pandemic have been released.
BuzzFeed News and The Washington Post both utilized the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to gain access to thousands of emails between Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, and many other scientists, medical professionals, journalists, celebrities, and average citizens.
BuzzFeed published 3,200 pages of emails from January to June 2020, and The Washington Post published excerpts from 860 pages from March and April 2020. Many emails have been redacted. Some, such as Fauci’s response to an email sent by Francis Collins, the director of the National Institute of Health, on April 16, 2020 with the subject line "conspiracy gains momentum" and containing a Fox News report alleging Covid-19 was leaked from a Wuhan lab, are entirely blacked out.
Did Covid-19 Come from a Wuhan Lab?
Dr. Michael Jacobs, Clinical Associate Professor of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College, emailed Dr. Fauci over concerns that Covid-19 had been leaked by a Wuhan lab on February 21, 2020.
Some Covid-19 Features Look (Potentially) Engineered
Kristian G. Andersen, director of the Scripps Research Institute, emailed with Fauci about the possibility that the Covid-19 virus had been “engineered.” Andersen wrote while the virus looks “totally normal,” there are “unusual features” that “make up a really small part of the genome,” but some of these “features (potentially) look engineered.” Anderson further wrote that she and some of her colleagues think “the genome inconsistent with expectations from evolutionary theory.”
Only Infected People Need To Wear Masks
Replying to an email from Sylvia Burwell, secretary for health and human services from 2014 to 2017 under Obama, about the safety of domestic travel, Fauci wrote that “masks are really for infected people to prevent them from spreading infection to people who are not infected rather than protecting uninfected people from acquiring infection.” He goes on to say that “the typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out virus, which is small enough to pass through the material.”
Children Have Very Low Infection Rate
Schools started closing in March 2020, with some kids going on a spring break that practically turned into summer vacation. Even though there was little evidence that children could get infected with Covid, Fauci did not work to keep schools open.
The WHO’s joint report with China on Covid-19 in Feb. 2020 read that "Data on individuals aged 18 years old and under suggest that there is a relatively low attack rate in this age group (2.4% of all reported cases)... The Joint Mission learned that infected children have largely been identified through contact tracing in households of adults. Of note, people interviewed by the Joint Mission Team could not recall episodes in which transmission occurred from a child to an adult."
Fauci himself wrote that “Children have a very low infection rate.”
Fauci, 80, has worked under six U.S. presidents and has dealt with several health crises such as HIV/AIDS, Ebola, and Zika.
