When Elon Musk took over Twitter, everyone knew the social media site would never be the same again. He has followed through on some promises already, and his latest tweet reveals a thread from an independent journalist that explains exactly how Twitter intentionally suppressed the Hunter Biden laptop story and consequently affected a presidential election.

In October 2022, Tesla founder and quirky billionaire Elon Musk walked into the Twitter headquarters carrying a kitchen sink, prepared to take over the social media company after purchasing it for $44 billion. He has since aided in restoring many accounts that were previously banned, such as former President Donald Trump and various conservative independent journalists. His latest win is dropping bombshell news about how Twitter managed to hide the Hunter Biden story and prevent people from seeing the truth about a corrupt family that has been part of American politics for decades.

Twitter Deleted Tweets and Banned People at the Request of Celebrities

On Friday, Elon promised his Twitter followers to deliver some shocking information. "What really happened with the Hunter Biden story suppression by Twitter will be published on Twitter at 5pm ET!" he tweeted. "This will be awesome." Later that day, he quote tweeted a thread from independent journalist Matt Taibbi and wrote, "Here we go!!"

The title of Taibbi's thread is "THE TWITTER FILES." He drops bombshell after bombshell about how the Twitter executives who ran the company before Musk took over coordinated the suppression of Hunter Biden's laptop in order to please the Democrats.

"The 'Twitter Files' tell an incredible story from inside one of the world’s largest and most influential social media platforms," Taibbi writes. "It is a Frankensteinian tale of a human-built mechanism grown out the control of its designer." He adds that Twitter was originally a groundbreaking way for people to stay in touch in real time and communicate from anywhere in the world.

"In an early conception, Twitter more than lived up to its mission statement, giving people 'the power to create and share ideas and information instantly, without barriers,'" he tweets. "As time progressed, however, the company was slowly forced to add those barriers. Some of the first tools for controlling speech were designed to combat the likes of spam and financial fraudsters." But the Twitter executives "began to find more and more uses for these tools" and outsiders kept petitioning Twitter to "manipulate speech." He writes, "By 2020, requests from connected actors to delete tweets were routine. One executive would write to another: 'More to review from the Biden team.' The reply would come back: 'Handled.'"

Both celebrities and everyday people were unceremoniously kicked off the platform if they upset the wrong people, and although there were some people on the right who were in good graces with the Twitter executives, the investigation made it clear that Democrats had a much bigger influence on what Twitter did and who Twitter suspended than vice versa.

Twitter Intentionally Suppressed the Hunter Biden Laptop Story

A few weeks before the 2020 presidential election, the New York Post exposed the content of Hunter Biden's laptop, which was discovered because it had been completely abandoned. It contained much illicit material such as Hunter Biden doing drugs with multiple women and information on foreign deals that he and his family were involved in.

Taibbi tweets that Twitter "took extraordinary steps to suppress the story, removing links and posting warnings that it may be 'unsafe.' They even blocked its transmission via direct message, a tool hitherto reserved for extreme cases, e.g. child pornography."

The White House press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, shared details of the story and her account was temporarily banned. When they were pressed about why they made this decision, Twitter executives tried to pass it off as "hacked materials" policy. But there was never any evidence that federal law enforcement was involved with the laptop story.

“'They just freelanced it,' is how one former employee characterized the decision," Taibbi continues. “'Hacking was the excuse, but within a few hours, pretty much everyone realized that wasn’t going to hold. But no one had the guts to reverse it.'”

Former head of legal, policy and trust Vijaya Gadde played a key role in suppressing this information and coming up with a way to cover it up, although Twitter founder and then-CEO Jack Dorsey wasn't aware of it. Taibbi shares correspondence about the issue between Twitter executives.

Reportedly, "some Hill figures are characterizing the laptop story as 'tech’s Access Hollywood moment.'" Twitter has been caught red-handed covering up an important political story that could have easily swayed the election. This is not a surprise, though, as Elon Musk has already said previously that Twitter interfered with elections in the past, and he promises to create a safer, more trustworthy social media platform moving forward.
