'Emily In Paris' Season 2 Is Officially In Production, And We Can't Wait
Grab your beret and a fresh croissant, “Emily In Paris” is coming back for a second season, and production just began in Paris.
Despite negative reviews from French critics and setting a poor example for modern dating, Emily In Paris was one of Netflix’s most popular shows of 2020 due to its fun and escapist nature (plus, the fashion was oh-so-chic). In fact, it was the most-streamed comedy on Netflix last year.
The Appeal of Emily In Paris
What makes Emily In Paris so great is that it’s the perfect show if you’re looking for escapism. Life can be tough, and who doesn’t daydream of living in Paris? Lily Collins, the actress who plays Emily, understands this appeal and is happy that the show gave so many people a laugh during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lily Collins said, “As an actor, an artist, and a creative, the most meaningful gift is to connect with people through your art in some way. It’s an honor to be associated with a project that provided people with some much-needed relief during a trying time when everyone was looking for a reason to smile and laugh. Not only did playing Emily teach me more about myself, but also about the world around me. I couldn’t be happier to be back in Paris for Season 2 to expand upon those lessons, to continue to grow, and learn even more about this beautiful city and all of its character with Emily.”
Creator Darren Star echoes a similar sentiment. He told Deadline, “From the beginning we always wanted to create this beautiful cinematic view of Paris. The timing of the series release was fortuitous for us as everyone around the world was able to become armchair travelers and live vicariously through our cast. We could not be more proud and are excited to bring more joy to our fans as we start production on Season 2.”
Though we’re finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel from the pandemic, the second season will likely give us a fun escape from our everyday lives.
What We Know about Season 2
If you adored the cast in the first season, you’re in luck. There have been no notable changes to the cast as of May 3, and fans expect the second season to expand on the plot of the first season. The first season ended (sorry, not sorry for spoilers because how have you not watched it yet) with Emily earning the respect of her boss, Sylvie, and hooking up with her sexy neighbor, Gabriel, despite Gabriel being in a relationship with Camille.
When asked about the plot for the second season, Darren Star said, "What happens in the next chapter, I think, can be a real exploration of how does the relationship between these three characters evolve...Season 2 will open up some interesting and surprising relationship avenues."
When it comes to Emily’s professional life and relationship with the city of Paris, Star says, "She's going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she's living in. She'll be more of a resident of the city. She'll have her feet on the ground a little more. She's making a life there."
