'Euphoria' Star Sydney Sweeney Faces Backlash For Not Publicly Shaming Family Member Wearing A "Blue Lives Matter" Shirt

Sydney Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard in the popular HBO series Euphoria, is being pressured to publicly shame her conservative family members. Sweeney uploaded pictures from her mom’s hoedown-themed birthday party this week to her Instagram, angering many users online after fans spotted a “Blue Lives Matter” shirt in one of the photos. Users later found other individuals from the same party wearing "MAGA-inspired" red hats. 

“Seeing Sydney Sweeney get jumped is beautiful,” tweeted user @shaTIRED. “If you’re white and unwilling to completely shame your parents for their conservative views, you’re just as complicit and need to be escorted out.”

“Your ‘love’ for your parents being at the expense of marginalized people is f*cked up,” he adds. “Hold that love while holding them accountable is one thing. Ignoring that sh*t and pretending it’s not deep is another. F*** her, period.”

Sydney Sweeney defended her mom’s party by tweeting, “You guys this is wild. An innocent celebration for my mom's milestone 60th birthday has turned into an absurd political statement, which was not the intention. Please stop making assumptions. Much love to everyone. And Happy Birthday Mom!"

But the responses to Sydney’s tweet weren’t very forgiving: “Assumptions? Your family is wearing MAGA hats and blue lives matter shirts, they’re racist,” said @TayTeeHanson. “Time to face reality sweets, just because you’re white and famous doesn’t mean you get to have it all.”

Others came to Sweeney's defense. "My dad voted for trump (twice) and I still love him lmao," @moneypieces said. "Just because your family thinks one way doesn’t mean you all have to think the same."
