Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney Gets Raw About Nudity On Set: "I Feel Disgusting"
HBO’s hit show Euphoria has always featured risqué content that turns heads. One of its stars Sydney Sweeney is opening up about the nude scenes she has participated in over the last couple seasons.
Sydney Sweeney, who has also starred in White Lotus and The Handmaid’s Tale, opened up recently about what it’s really like to be nude on the set of Euphoria. She hasn’t felt comfortable every time she had to get naked in the past – and she was sure to communicate this to director Sam Levinson during the production of season 2.
Sydney Sweeney’s Nudity in Season 2
Sydney shared that she had to set some boundaries when they were filming for season 2 of Euphoria. “There are moments where [my character] Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here,’” she told the Independent. “He was like, ‘OK, we don’t need it.’”
Although she put her foot down in those moments, she said she never felt unsafe on set with Sam. “When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me,” she concluded. She partly attributes her feeling of safety to having an intimacy coordinator on set who had her best interest in mind when there was a delicate scene at hand.
Sydney also told the Independent that she feels her acting performance has been overshadowed by nudity. She’s proud of the work she did in Euphoria, “but no one talks about it because I got naked.” She added, “I do The White Lotus and all of a sudden critics are paying attention. People are loving me. They’re like, ‘Oh my God, what’s she doing next?’ I was like, ‘Did you not see that in Euphoria? Did you not see that in The Handmaid’s Tale?”
Sydney Opens Up about Nudity on Other Sets
While she may feel generally comfortable being naked on the set of Euphoria, Sydney is brutally honest about the nudity she has done on other sets. “I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting,” she shared. “I didn’t feel comfortable with my castmate or the crew, and I just didn’t feel like my character would be doing it.”
It does seem as though Sydney feels much more comfortable speaking up for herself on set with Sam Levinson, and it is reassuring to hear that she never feels like nudity is pushed on her while filming HBO’s Euphoria.
