Eva Mendes took a step back from acting to focus on her family. The actress hasn’t appeared in a film since 2014, when she starred in Lost River, directed by Ryan Gosling himself.

Mendes, who shares two daughters with Gosling, recently opened up about what might bring her back on set. The 50-year-old says she'll only return if it's with her husband and added that acting with Gosling again is "the thing I would love to do."

While some may have expected a big Hollywood comeback, Mendes revealed in an interview with The Sunday Times that leaving acting wasn’t a tough decision for her. No surprise here, as she's called the move a "no-brainer" in previous interviews.

“I was never in love with acting,” she admitted to the outlet, adding, “I had my moments when I worked with really great people, but I wasn’t a great actress.”

Despite starring in classics like Hitch and The Other Guys, her proudest on-screen moments were in the two films she shared with the love of her life: Drunk History Christmas and The Place Beyond the Pines. “He gets something out of me that’s never been accessible before,” she revealed.

This is not the first time Mendes has discussed the possibility of acting again. She told The View in 2022 about her desire to return someday, but the project would need to be “special” and not include sexuality or violence.

Since becoming a mother, Mendes has chosen motherhood over acting in Hollywood. She has also launched a cleaning brand, Skura Style, and authored a children’s book titled Desi, Mami, and the Never-Ending Worries. More recently, Mendes called out Kellogg's harmful ingredients and thanked "Food Babe" Vani Hari for raising awareness of children's snack items. We love a momma bear!

It’s admirable that she prioritized motherhood and chose to be fully present for her kids, Esmeralda and Amanda, rather than continuing the hustle of the entertainment industry. In a country where girlbossing is promoted, Mendes’ move to focus on her family is a testament to her values.
