Ana Kasparian Calls Out Democrats For Lying About Covid Lockdowns And The Economy
Ana Kasparian, co-host of "The Young Turks," a far-left political show, recently admitted many Democrats knowingly lie about the Trump administration's unemployment statistics. "They *know* [unemployment] was due to the covid shutdowns DEMS SUPPORTED and wanted to extend," she wrote on X.
On October 2, 2024, Kasparian tweeted, "Honestly it drives me crazy when Dems allege that unemployment rose by tens of millions under Trump when they *know* it was due to the covid shutdowns DEMS SUPPORTED and wanted to extend."
Her statement directly addresses the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns that Democrats enthusiastically enforced across the country. It was likely written in response to Tim Walz lying during the Vice Presidential Debate about Trump's impact on the economy.
This comment from Kasparian stands out as yet another instance where she has veered from the typical progressive or liberal narrative. When blasted by other progressive voices, she doubled down, defending her position that attributing unemployment numbers solely to Trump’s policies ignores the larger context of the shutdowns, which many Democrats pushed despite mounting evidence against their effectiveness.
Kasparian is developing a reputation for breaking from left-wing viewpoints. She has also openly criticized policies like cashless bail, particularly in cases involving violent criminals, and has spoken out against the governance of California under Gavin Newsom, calling the state a “**** show.” These stances, especially her criticism of woke terms for women such as "birthing person," have put her at odds with many progressives as they become more extreme, but she has unapologetically maintained her positions.
Kasparian also recently confronted California State Senator Scott Wiener, called a "pro-pedo" politician by many online. One of his most horrifying initiatives is SB 145, which effectively legalized pederasty in California. The bill leg legalized “consensual” anal or oral sex between children as young as 14 and a “partner” up to 10 years older, meaning a 24-year-old man could have sex with a 14-year-old boy. Wiener and fellow state legislators claimed any criticism of the bill was "homophobic."
Kasparian referenced the bill and called Weiner "a sick f**k" during the exchange.
Her willingness to diverge from leftist talking points has led to accusations of shifting rightward, but she maintains that her positions are driven by practical concerns and a rejection of what she sees as hypocrisy. This kind of independence could attract viewers who feel disillusioned by party politics. Maybe Kasparian is an example of how political commentators can evolve, refusing to conform to rigid narratives in favor of engaging with uncomfortable truths.
