Every Christmas Episode Of ‘The Office’—Ranked From Worst To Best
“The Office” is arguably one of the funniest American comedies of all time, so it’s no surprise that they have some of the best Christmas episodes on TV.
You either love The Office or you're wrong. Okay, we're half-kidding. But anyone who has seen the iconic series knows that the employees of Dunder Mifflin are a chaotic bunch, and Christmas often brings out the funniest in them. It was difficult to rank them because they're each entertaining in their own way, but here is our official list of every Christmas episode of The Office, from worst to best. Don’t forget – seasons 1 and 4 didn’t have Christmas episodes (we were cheated, I know!).
7. “Christmas Wishes” (Season 8)
This episode has plenty of funny moments (like Jim and Dwight’s prank war, Meredith getting blackout drunk, and Dwight losing his mind over Christmas music), but its plot is kind of boring when you compare it to the others. Andy is determined to make his first Christmas as general manager a success by trying to grant everyone’s Christmas wishes, but things go south when he tells Erin that he’s bringing his new girlfriend, Jessica, to the Christmas party.
Erin copes by getting too drunk at the party, and Dunder Mifflin CEO Robert California takes notice, leading Andy to question whether or not he’s truly over her. And how can we forget Kelly’s hilariously petty mean girl behavior toward Jessica?
6. “Christmas Party” (Season 2)
In the first Christmas episode of the series, we see how chaotic Christmas can get at Dunder Mifflin and how Angela rules the party planning committee with an iron fist. Things take a hilarious turn when Michael decides to turn Secret Santa into a White Elephant, leading everyone to fight over the video iPod that he bought Ryan.
This is also the episode where Jim gives Pam a teapot full of funny gifts for Christmas. He plans to give her a card to tell her how he feels, only to change his mind at the last second (though we finally see him give her the card in the series finale).
5. “Moroccan Christmas” (Season 5)
Phyllis and the party planning committee (mainly Phyllis because she’s blackmailing Angela after catching her having an affair) go all-out with their Moroccan-themed Christmas party, only for Meredith to ruin it by getting too drunk and accidentally setting her hair on fire. This leads Michael to stage an intervention, which goes as well as you’d expect.
The subplot includes Dwight buying every Princess Unicorn doll he can find, forcing desperate parents to overpay him for the doll, leading to a hilariously uncomfortable interaction between Darryl and Toby.
4. “Dwight’s Christmas” (Season 9)
When Angela forgets to plan the Christmas party after finding out that Oscar was sleeping with her husband, the entire office must come up with a theme quickly. Dwight suggests throwing an authentic Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas, and they all agree because they can’t think of anything else. Dwight fully embraces the party theme, dressing as belsnickel and wreaking havoc on the entire office.
In one of the cutest subplots on this list, Erin discovers that Pete knows every line of Die Hard, convincing him to recite the entire movie while she tries to get over Andy. In another subplot, Darryl gets blackout drunk when Jim forgets to tell him about a new job opportunity, ensuing chaos.
3. “A Benihana Christmas” (Season 3)
This two-part episode features two equally hilarious plots. After Michael’s girlfriend dumps him, Andy and Dwight decide to take him to Benihana’s to cheer him up. After Andy convinces Michael that it would be a good idea to bring two of the waitresses to their Christmas party, things get awkward when Michael realizes that he can’t tell them apart.
Back at the office, Pam and Karen throw a fun Christmas party to compete with Angela’s boring one. The two parties divide the office, making Angela hilariously even more power-hungry than usual.
2. “Classy Christmas” (Season 7)
When Toby announces that he’ll be gone for long-term jury duty and that Michael’s ex-girlfriend Holly will be his replacement, Michael postpones the Christmas party and decides to throw an extravagant one to impress her. However, things go downhill when he discovers that Holly is still in a relationship and wants to keep things professional with Michael.
The funniest part about this episode is the snowball fight between Jim and Dwight. After years of Jim relentlessly pranking Dwight, Dwight takes revenge by terrorizing Jim through a snowball fight, leading to antics that disrupt the entire office.
1. “Secret Santa” (Season 6)
Besides being completely chaotic, this episode is great because it gives every character a chance to show off their quirks. In typical Michael Scott fashion, he throws a fit and ruins the Christmas party when Phyllis is chosen to be the office Santa, leading to some of his most immature and politically incorrect antics to ever air on the show.
The subplots are equally hilarious. From Andy giving Erin the 12 Days of Christmas as a Secret Santa gift to Michael pretending to be David Wallace’s daughter to get him on the phone to Pam awkwardly trying to set Oscar up with the only other gay guy in the office, this episode represents everything we love about The Office.
Closing Thoughts
From chaotic Christmas parties to epic prank wars between Jim and Dwight, the crew at Dunder Mifflin never disappoints to provide us with the funniest Christmas episodes. Even if you’re not an avid fan of The Office, it certainly can't hurt to indulge in some of these episodes to ring in the Christmas season.
