Everyone's Talking About "The Holiday" Sequel—But Producer Nancy Meyers Says It's All Just Rumors
"The Holiday" is one of the most beloved Christmas movies that has remained a cult classic for 16 years. There were rumors circulating social media that there would be a sequel with the original cast, but director and producer Nancy Meyers set the record straight.
If you've never thought of Jack Black as a heartthrob, you clearly haven't seen The Holiday, a Christmas romantic comedy starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, and Jude Law. The movie has become a holiday favorite that most people watch every single year. The internet erupted with excitement when there was talk of a sequel, but some things really are too good to be true.
Everyone's Talking about "The Holiday" Sequel—but Producer Nancy Meyers Says It's All Just Rumors
The Holiday begins with two women who have had bad luck in love. Cameron Diaz's character Amanda finds that her boyfriend of several years cheated on her with his (much younger) secretary while Kate Winslet's character Iris discovers that the man she's been in love with for years (an ex-boyfriend who still flirts with her incessantly) is engaged to someone else. Most women can identify with one or both of them at some point in their life.
The movie kicks off when the two women meet in an online chat and decide to swap houses for a couple weeks. That's when Amanda meets Iris' dreamy brother Graham, a widower of two young daughters and Iris meets Miles, a colleague of Amanda's ex. You know how it goes from here: the guy gets the girl, the guy loses the girl, and he wins her back in the end.
There were rumors flying around online that The Holiday was getting a sequel. The Sun even reported that a follow-up film was in the works. “The plan is to start filming next year," a source allegedly said. "The main talent are all signed up.”
However, Nancy Meyers is here to set the record straight. Meyers produced, wrote, and directed The Holiday and she's known for a variety of other romantic comedies such as Something's Gotta Give and What Women Want.
Meyers posted a screenshot of a headline referring to a sequel and wrote in the caption, "So many DM’s about this - sorry but it’s not true. ❤️" Kate Winslet's representative confirmed the same to IndieWire—The Holiday sequel is nothing more than a rumor.
The comment section on Meyer's Instagram was flooded with disappointment and requests for Meyers to make either a second Holiday movie or create a brand new romantic comedy that's suitable for the Christmas season.
