Everything We Know About The Crying Single Mom And Her Ex-Husband So Far
When Elizabeth Teckenbrock shared a video of herself crying on TikTok about being a single mother while baking a birthday cake, the internet was quick to respond with sympathy and criticism, but as more information comes to light about her and her ex-husband, millions are now wondering what the real story is.

It all started when Teckenbrock (29) shared this TikTok, which has been viewed over 45 million times across various social media platforms.
In it, she tearily prepares her own birthday cake. The text explains that she's doing it so that her children can sing to her, which will make them happy. While some responded with encouragement and praise, others said the video was contrived and attention-seeking.
"This is my first birthday alone. Typically I would have family... but all of my family is far this year, and it is just me living in Tampa,' she told Newsweek. "But as I was making the cake, I was emotional and started crying which I was not expecting. It was an emotional day. I was so upset at the time. Truth be told I don't love cake. It was all for them."
However, the birthday cake discourse took a much wilder turn when Teckenbrock's ex-husband, Andrew Cormier responded with a video of his own.
Cormier (37) alleges that Teckenbrock is an extremely negligent mother, as well as a liar and con woman. He claims that he has full custody of their children and that Teckenbrock owes him thousands of dollars in child support. He also says that she faked having cancer and scammed someone out of nearly a million dollars.
Even before Teckenbrock went viral, he'd already dedicated his TikTok account (called Inventing Elizabeth) to exposing her "lies" with various screenshots.
"Right now I have full custody of our kids," he stated. "This is our parent agreement. As you can see, I have all weekdays and weekends, time sharing with the kids on holiday academic breaks...People that follow her are giving her praise and showing them telling her how strong and how you know amazing, she's doing well, she's really not a full-time mom. She barely has her kids. She goes out all the time."
Some of Cormier's claims appear to be backed up with evidence. For example, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Teckenbrock was taken into custody in August 2023 on third-degree grand theft and cash or deposit items with intent to defraud. His screenshots also seem to confirm that she lied about cancer at some point. However, after his video started going viral, Teckenbrock responded with disturbing allegations of her own.
In her follow-up response, Teckenbrock claims that Cormier is an abusive Scientologist, who has used psychological and financial tactics to manipulate younger women and that he's been targeting her with online harassment ever since she divorced him three years ago.
According to her Linkedin, she's the founder of 'Fear to Fierce,' a non-profit organization "committed to assist survivors of domestic violence through support services and advocacy, empowering women to stand against fear and embrace their inherent fierceness." Also according to her Linkedin, she attended Purdue University where she earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery.
"Andrew is extremely, extremely abusive and has always been extremely abusive," she claimed in her response. "First, I'll start with the custody, okay, because that's what we're all talking about. I see my children, I see all my children. I'm the one who hosts their birthday parties. I'm the one who puts them to bed. I'm the one who does everything until he pulls them away. And the reason is the agreement that you guys have seen online is when I first left him out of abuse, I had no resources, no money, nothing, he was a doctor. He said, 'If you sign these papers, nothing will change when you see them and I will not ruin your life. I will leave you alone.' I was still seeing them always, even now. Like he's portraying this on there. I'm not a perfect person, not even a little, I would never say that I'm not a perfect mom, I hope, like no one would say they're a perfect mom."
She appeared to concede to Cormier's claim of maternal negligence but only temporarily.
"When I got divorced, definitely when I left my husband, I was out drinking, or I was I was going through it I mean," she explained. "I felt like I was literally trapped in an abusive marriage for six years. Since I have been 16 years old, and I became a mother, I have devoted my life and my time to being a mom."
"I will proudly say, without a doubt, I know who I am," she added. "I know that I'm a good mother, that I love my children. I've made mistakes in my life, yes, I did get arrested, that's not something that I've even remotely denied. I've actually touched base on that before on my page. I went through some pretty bad mental things as I was about a year out from getting divorced. And then when I left, even worse, I was going out all the time, I made a bunch of mistakes," she went on. "It's really hard to come out of anything like that, especially when you're being torn down at the same time."
Regarding the child support payments, she alleged that Cormier misrepresented his income as a self-employed doctor to manipulate the court into making her pay child support in the first place. Based on the information available online, he appears to be an optometrist with a degree from Florida State University.
Cormier denied her claims and said he has never abused Teckenbrock. He also denies being a Scientologist, however many on social media noted that his account (which was recently scrubbed except for one post) had numerous links to Scientology-related pages.
Their back-and-forth allegations went on for days as social media users weighed in. Many sided with Cormier on the basis that he seems to have more evidence to back up his claims, as well as the fact that he was awarded full custody of the children. They speculated that Teckenbrock would've had to have been very irresponsible to not be awarded any custody by a judge.
Many others, however, sided with Teckenbrock, stating that Cormier's account screamed of red flags, such as narcissism and control. Many pointed out that Teckenbrock never publicly criticized Cormier until after she went viral and responded. In one of her latest TikToks, she asked users to please refrain from harassing him in any way.
"My whole page has never been discussing him whatsoever. I never cared to, I never wanted to bring him down no matter the amount of pain I was feeling, but I also got to the point this past week where I did not have a choice to defend myself."
It's unclear what will happen next, but the only real consensus seems to be that both parties have shared far too personal information much online and that their kids deserve better from both parents. Others have focused their criticism on those who made them go viral in the first place.
"The internet not being real life so hard right now," observed one baffled commenter on X when the drama first started to unfold.
Perhaps that sums it up perfectly.
