FEMA Officials Stay At 5-Star Hotels In Maui And Are Reportedly Throwing Donations Away
Maui residents are begging tourists to stay away so that they can rebuild, but FEMA officials appear to be "vacationing" in 5-star resorts.

Weeks after wildfires destroyed Lāhainā and left many people dead and homeless, FEMA is finally on-site to help victims – supposedly. According to multiple sources, FEMA officials appear to be enjoying their stay at five-star hotels, located about a 45-minute drive from the damaged town of Lāhainā.
The Daily Mail has captured FEMA officials lounging and drinking at the bar inside the Grand Wailea Hotel on August 18, a resort that costs a little over $1,000 each night. According to the site, federal workers were placed in "four different luxury resorts in Maui," including the Fairmont Kea Lani.
There are purportedly 100 FEMA officials at the Marriott Wailea Beach resort, with each night costing approximately $531, a total of $53,100 daily. It's unknown how long they're staying. Their luxurious and tone-deaf stays haven't gone unnoticed. Kaleo, a government employee who lives in Maui, described FEMA officials' stay as "selfish." "Shouldn't they stay closer to the site, instead of staying across on the other side of the island?" Kaleo asked.
As FEMA officials relax in their hotel rooms at night, ABCNews reported that the White House and FEMA have approved a measly one-time payment of $700 per household for their needs. President Joe Biden and FEMA faced backlash following this announcement, with many assuming that this is the only type of assistance locals are getting. The agency labels this as a "rumor" on its website, further stating that this is only one of the types of federal assistance victims are qualified to receive. Then, it links to a page where victims can view their application status online and a number to call to see what other "types of disaster assistance" they are "eligible to receive."
FEMA Reportedly Asks Officials Not To Post Photos Online
Many are finding FEMA's behavior suspicious. A source has purportedly leaked a FEMA email asking its officials to refrain from posting images of the disaster on social media. Justin Angel Knighten, the Office of External Affairs Director, allegedly sent the email.
"Out of respect for those who perished, we were asked by Maui County officials to pause on posting on social media and elsewhere new imagery of damage/disaster/debris starting now. They are asking for a full stop on disaster imagery going forward. At this time, we have not been asked to take any photos or video down. Our team on the ground is coordinating with the County for further guidance to ensure we remain fully aligned. Cultural sensitivity is of the utmost importance in all our response and recovery activities to this disaster," the screenshotted email reads. Are these really protective measures for locals, or is it actually for the agency?
FEMA is also allegedly throwing away donated items to landfills because they're not "government funded," according to one woman who lives in Maui. "How can they take these resources and throw them in the trash? How can they take these containers and unload them in the f*cking rubbish dump? They need to go to the people!" she said in a TikTok video.
Homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses are destroyed. 850 people are still missing. The death toll seems to keep rising, and hundreds of officials are staying at costly hotels...all on our dime.
