This Influencer Just Outlined All Her French Dating Secrets And We’re Obsessed
Have you ever dreamt of going to Paris and falling in love by going on dates in gorgeous cafes and walks alongside the river Seine? Maybe even a kiss or two under the Eiffel Tower?
While it’s not realistic for all of us to travel to Paris, French influencer and model Mara Lafontan revealed her secrets to date like a Parisian in a video with popular YouTube channel Parisian Vibe.
Here are some of our favorite tips and tricks from Mara’s video.
How French Women Get Ready
Mara implies that what you do while you get ready for the date is crucial to the date’s success, and I couldn’t agree more. She encourages her followers to not only listen to music while getting ready for a date, but to tailor your playlist to the kind of date you’re going on to get you in the mood for it. Going on a chill coffee date? Listen to something relaxing. Going on a fun date like bowling or mini-golf? Turn on something fun and energizing like Madonna or Britney Spears.
Your first date outfit is important, and the style should reflect what you’re doing on the date (wearing a dress and heels while doing something active isn’t the best idea) and how many dates you’ve been on with the guy. Mara suggests something that’s both versatile and makes you feel good. My go-to outfit for a first date is a nice top and jeans or a casual dress. If you’ve been on multiple dates and are in a relationship with the guy, you can put on something a little sexier for a dinner date.
It’s okay to admit it: it feels great to wear sexy lingerie under your clothes because it feels like you’re hiding a sexy little secret. However, it’s best to not jump into sex too early if you’re dating with purpose. Though sexy lingerie can make you feel confident, Mara suggests wearing something simple (but still makes you feel good) as lingerie on a first date. And if you want to boost your sexual discipline to uphold your boundaries, wear a mismatched bra and panty.
What To Do on the Date
Safety and practicality come first when choosing a first date spot. You don’t want to go to the guy’s apartment (sounds like the beginning of a horror movie) or to a restaurant (in case the date doesn’t go well and you need to bail ASAP). Mara suggests sticking to the tried and true classic coffee or drinks on a first date. There’s also something so cute about getting coffee or a glass of wine on a first date that feels very romantic and Parisian.
The French are egalitarian, which is why Mara suggests splitting the bill on the first date and that both men and women should take charge on dates equally. Chivalry is hot, but it’s also hot to see a guy who is secure enough in his masculinity to let you foot the bill every once in a while.
The biggest question is whether to be easy-going or mysterious on a first date. Mara suggests that your approach should depend on your personality or what you’re comfortable with. I’m an ambivert (equal parts introvert and extrovert), so my approach is to be myself but not give too much away to leave an air of mystery.
You can also leave an air of mystery with the way you dress. Marilyn Monroe once said, “Your clothes should be tight enough to show you are a woman, but lose enough to show you’re a lady.” Take advantage of your feminine curves and wear clothes that flatter your figure yet cover your curves. My favorite way to do this is to wear a fitted turtleneck, which is both comfortable and sexy.
To Kiss or Not To Kiss?
When it comes to kissing or sleeping with a guy on the first date, Mara suggests that French women tend to hold back a little to give more later. She also talks about her dad telling her to never force herself to do anything she’s not comfortable with, which is always great advice. When you’re dating with purpose, having sex on the first date is a horrible idea. If you feel like kissing him, go for it, but make sure it’s something that you want to do and not something you feel pressured to do.
