Gisele Bündchen Took A Step Back From Her Career To Focus On Her Kids When They Were Young, But "Now It's Going To Be My Turn"
Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen is one of the most recognized faces across the globe. She's also well-known for being the devoted wife of Tom Brady and their children. Although she devoted the majority of her time to raising her children when they were young, she has decided that it's time to get her career up and going again.
Tom Brady is currently playing his 23rd season in the NFL and he spent most of his time playing for the New England Patriots. When he retired and then announced that he would return to the sport, many headlines claimed that this caused friction between him and Gisele. In an interview with Elle, she talks about what motherhood has been like during Tom's career and what's coming up next for her and her family.

Gisele intentionally took a step back from her career when her children were younger and Tom was devoted to the Patriots. She made a big change from her 20s, when she was so devoted to her job that she worked 350 days a year. She was so busy that she became addicted to coffee, cigarettes, and red wine just to manage all the stress.
“Looking back, I now see that I’d gone so numb I couldn’t see what was happening," she said. "I was poisoning my body from the moment I woke in the morning to the moment I crashed at night.”
But she completely changed her diet and lifestyle, taking on yoga and meditation instead. And she spend most of the 2010s living in Boston with Tom and their kids, and devoting most of her time to the family.
“I’m so grateful to have been there in those moments that were really shaping who they are as people,” she said.
However, Gisele is ready to revamp her career once again now that the kids are older. She's always been passionate about raising awareness about environmental issues and even served as the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme. She wants to bring people's attention to the damage that modern practices have done to the planet.
“There are so many things I’m working on, I’ll be here the entire day talking about it,” Gisele said. "I feel very fulfilled in that way, as a mother and as a wife. And now it’s going to be my turn. It’s not like I’m going to be in the valley forever.”
She refers to the valley as a period of time in her life when she took a break from her career and instead chose to invest in her children. But now she's ready to make the big return.
“In every major city, they’re putting toxins in rivers, and we have to think about what we’re doing, how we are jeopardizing the very ecosystem that provides us life,” she said. “We are all connected.”
Gisele also opened up a little about what the tabloids have been saying about her and Tom. Allegedly, there has been tension between them after he decided to return to the NFL for another season. The interviewer suggested that it's sexist for the media to say that Gisele has an issue with his decision.
“I think this is the system we’ve been living in. That’s what society has accepted and what society hasn’t accepted,” she said. “Obviously, I have my concerns—this is a very violent sport, and I have my children and I would like him to be more present."
“I have definitely had those conversations with him over and over again," she added. "But ultimately, I feel that everybody has to make a decision that works for [them]. He needs to follow his joy, too.”
