Glen Powell made headlines after he appeared on Jake Shane's podcast Therapuss in late May.

Why, you ask? According to the Anyone But You star, his sister’s friend almost became a victim of cannibalism.

Around the 20-minute mark, Powell revealed that the family friend went on a date with a weird man who offered her a massage. “My little sister was friends with a girl who went out on a date with a guy," he said. "They're hanging out. He's super charming."

“She goes back to his apartment that night, and he's like, ‘Hey, can I give you a massage?’ And then, as she got back to his apartment, she just started getting weird vibes. She's like, ‘Something feels off,’” he explained.

“And he's like, ‘Can I give you a massage?’ She's like, ‘Sure.’” Powell said that the woman began to feel odd and suddenly felt the need to get out of there. She left, but to her dismay, her skin started “itching like crazy the next day.”

"She goes to the doctor the next day, and he does a test on her skin," he said. "And it turns out that it's like a black market lotion that breaks down skin for human consumption. This man was rubbing lotion on her body to eat her. So the doctor's like, 'You got to give me this person's address, and you should call the police.' They go to this guy's house, and he had several girls' bodies in the house." So, there you have it. Powell's family friend supposedly got marinated by some creep.

However, many feel that Powell was actually lying, and the story never happened.

The Cannibal Lotion Myth

It’s a popular urban myth that murderers use lotion on their victims, and it’s all thanks to the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs. In the movie, a serial killer named Buffalo Bill kidnaps women and then makes them apply lotion on themselves to soften their skin.

But while many people are under the assumption that lotion will prepare the skin to be eaten, Buffalo Bill uses it because he wants to murder the women and then wear their skin. It has nothing to do with cannibals, and historically, there haven’t been any of them who were known to use lotion on their victims. Still, the rumor persisted because of the cultural impact of the film and the way its lines have been referenced in media over the years.

And, according to numerous reports, Snopes has deemed similar stories to Powell's as false.

We'll never know if Powell is being truthful, but one thing's for sure: He can tell any story, and we'll all just nod our heads and go, Whatever you say, handsome.
