Gracie Abrams Condemns Porn And Says It's "Dangerous" For "Young People"

Singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams is speaking out against porn. Are we witnessing the downfall of the misleading "sexual empowerment" narrative?

Gracie Abrams shared her honest thoughts on pornography in a recent interview with Cosmopolitan.

When asked if there was anything she wished she had known earlier about sex, her response was, "Porn is bullsh*t. It is dangerous, not real, and a performance. It’s really dangerous for young people for that to be their introduction to sex. I remember growing up reading Cosmo and it being like ‘six tips to give the most rocking blow job ever,’ and you’re like, ‘Holy f*ck.’"

Abrams continued, "I had a lot of questions...I took to the internet for answers, which is frightening to think about now. Young people need to learn about sex from a reputable resource like Cosmo or a strong mentor, not just scrolling aimlessly online like I did." Note: Young people should not go to Cosmo for sex advice.

The comments mostly agreed with Abrams, though many pointed out the irony of citing Cosmo as a reputable source. One user, @jps_aririah, reacted on X, saying, "cosmo??????????????" But let's give Abrams some grace; she is working with them after all.

Abrams’ point is that porn is not sex education. Yet, for many young people, it serves as their first exposure to it. A report from the British Board of Film Classification found that children as young as seven are now stumbling across explicit sexual content online.

The industry itself thrives on pushing boundaries. The most-watched categories on major sites often involve coercion, humiliation, or outright abuse – content that, if removed from a pornographic context, would be considered disturbing and damaging to women, if not outright criminal.

Hollywood and the entertainment industry are usually sex-obsessed, so hearing a completely different and sane take from a big name is refreshing. I’m grateful that Abrams is using her large platform to discuss the problems of porn and its horrible consequences. Whether or not Abrams' fans agree with her, it’s got people talking about it.
