On June 3, 2024, Margot Wood and her 3-year-old son, Julian, returned to their vehicle after shopping at the Giant Eagle Supermarket in North Olmsted, Ohio. All of a sudden, a woman dressed in black charged at them with a kitchen knife and stabbed both of them. Julian was stabbed in the face and back, while Margot was knifed in the shoulder. Bionca Ellis, 32, walked away after committing the crime. Horrified shoppers called 911.

Ellis was arrested after the police gave first aid to the victims, who were later rushed to St. John Medical Center. Ellis was headed toward Dover Center Road, still brandishing the weapon before she was caught.

The next day, it was announced that Julian had passed away at the hospital. His mother “was treated for non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery,” according to the police.

Ellis was arraigned via video from jail. Her bond was set at $1 million, and she was charged with aggravated murder.

Bionca Ellis Smirks in Court

A viral video showed Ellis smirking as her charges were read to her in court. During her third attempt at arraignment, the court brought the murderer downstairs to face the judge in person. Ellis refused to acknowledge her indictment, declaring she had no intention of reading it herself or having her attorney read it. Judge Nancy Russo proceeded to read the indictment aloud, during which Ellis was seen smiling as she listened to the allegations against her.

The judge asked if Ellis was going to plead not guilty. She giggled in response and said, “Si," saying "yes" eventually.

Julian’s father, Jared Wood, spoke on behalf of his family before Russo set the bail. “Your honor, the day, one week ago, she took everything from us,” the grieving father said. “There is nothing that could ever replace my son or anything that my wife or I or even my other kids are going through. It’s horrendous.”

He added, "Do whatever you can to keep this monster behind bars,” asking the judge to deny bail. But while Jared simply asks for Ellis to remain imprisoned, others are calling for her execution and labeling her killing a hate crime. North Olmsted police stated that the attack appears to be random.

Social Media Users Call for Bionca Ellis’ Execution

"If a white woman stabbed a black toddler to death in a parking lot and acted this way in court, there would be full scale violent protests and riots across the USA," wrote personal trainer Alexander Cortes on X/Twitter.

He continued, "It would be called a hate crime, politicians would make speeches and call for a day of mourning, 'white supremacy violence' would be declared an epidemic, the death penalty would be demand, and it would be front page news everywhere."

"But its a white child that got murdered in cold blood, so none of those things will happen. Instead it will be called 'random', because hate crimes only get labeled that way when they fit the optics, the family will be forced to make a statement about being colorblind and not to be judgmental, and mainstream media will bury the story. Dont let them."

@TheDisSilent2A wrote in the comment section, "Bring back public executions."

"How is this not a hate crime?" asked @LibsofTikTok.

@Bubblebathgirl added, "If races were reversed media would call this a hate crime."

This is not the first case of alleged hate crime in recent months. A black man from New Jersey was charged a month ago after he threatened to kill white people. He wrote on social media that he wanted to murder “as many as I possibly can.”

In March, numerous women were attacked randomly in New York City. The perpetrator, Skiboky Stora, was indicted on hate crime charges in the "anti-female, anti-white, and antisemitic attacks," according to NBC News.

A GoFundMe has been created on behalf of the Wood family. "Our family is overwhelmed with sadness… and overwhelmed with the loving support the community has already provided us," the page reads. "This will be an incredibly long journey to recovery, but truthfully we will never recover – but we will continue to share stories about our beautiful baby boy, his laugh, his cheesy smile, his rambunctious attitude, his love of dinosaurs, his love of school, his obsession with his new baby sister and wrestling his big brother every chance he gets... and all the other beautiful things about that sweet little boy."

"Hundreds of people – friends, family, strangers have been reaching out, sending us love and kind words, and asking how they can help the Wood family at this time," their statement continued, "If you feel inclined, we are asking for donations to help with the cost of funeral arrangements and to cover any time off work."

"This is something no person, no family, no mother, no father, no grandmother should ever experience. We urge you all to hold your babies close. This should have never happened. Please continue your prayers for our family, for Margot, baby Julian, Jared, his grandmother, his brother, and his sister, and pray our family receives some sort of justice."

Judge Russo set the bail at the highest possible amount: $5 million.
