Hot Girls Smell Irresistible—Here Are Their Secret Tips And Tricks
Christian Dior once said that “long after one has forgotten what a woman wore, the memory of her perfume lingers,” but perfume can only go so far. An enchanting woman knows how to optimize her routines to smell good no matter what.
Smell is one of the most emotive and evocative senses – to the extent that perfumers have built an entire industry around connecting certain scents to memories. Our sense of smell is primal in nature and has evolutionary benefits: We can detect sickness or health through odor and may even be able to literally smell fear on those around us. How a person smells can also help comfort us or even arouse sensual or sexual urges within us.
Smells trigger strong memories, emotions, and experiences – whether they’re our natural pheromones or purposefully picked perfumes dabbed on our wrists and behind our ears. Think of it like waging subtle, justifiable psychological warfare on a man. The sheer act of smelling attractive is like magic and could be a surefire spell in your arsenal to enchant a man. Hot girls know how to smell irresistible, and here’s how you can emulate all their best strategies to curate your vibe into the most desirable woman you can be.

Rethink Your Food and Bev Regimen
If you’ve ever heard the old adage “you are what you eat,” just know, it’s not entirely unfounded! If you want to smell beautiful from the inside out, you might want to rethink just how much – and how frequently – you consume some of these odorous foods.
Several strong spices, including those that add heat to your meal, can affect your body odor. This same phenomenon often occurs when we eat more onions or garlic, which are allium vegetables. Allium veggies are high in sulfur, and this could have you smelling like your last meal for up to 48 hours. There are plenty of foods that, when overconsumed, can have you smelling super sulfurous until they’re fully out of your system, like eggs, lentils, wine, and cruciferous vegetables.
Leafy greens, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower are all amazing for upping your micronutrient game, but the high dose of sulfur you’ll get if you consume too much too quickly can make you gassy and cause foul-smelling farts. TMI? Don’t shoot the messenger! I love raw veggies, but when it comes to cruciferous veggies, registered dietitians recommend cooking them to reduce the sulfuric smells.
Have you ever felt significantly less sexy after happy hour ends? Alcohol actually has a big impact on your body as well. Experts explain that because our bodies treat alcohol like a toxin and the liver can only metabolize so much alcohol so quickly (12 ounces of beer per hour, for example), when we drink too much too quickly, we can’t exactly metabolize all that liquid properly. Instead, the alcohol that isn’t metabolized will get excreted through oxidation, “which breaks the toxins down into smaller parts [...] diacetic acid, carbon dioxide, and water that the body can metabolize and excrete through urine, breath, and sweat.”
Too much red meat can also affect your body odor, but hot girls don’t ditch red meat unnecessarily…and there may be clever ways to internally “deodorize” your bod. Several studies suggest chlorophyll can aid in reducing body odor, which is one reason why you’ve probably started seeing women online tout their liquid chlorophyll supplementation. It’s no cure-all, and some studies suggest it won’t improve odor at all, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to try it out for yourself.
Other foods, drinks, and spices that are believed to help you smell better from the inside out are probiotic yogurt, apples, citrus fruits and citrus-based drinks like lemon water, green tea, cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, rosemary, sage, and wheatgrass. Allegedly, too many starchy carbs like pasta and pizza could also contribute to bad B.O.
Properly Pamper Your Pits
Speaking of deodorant – hot girls don’t stop the sweat. Certain ingredients in common antiperspirants and deodorants can actually make you smell worse – all while promising to improve your aroma. Salts and aluminum (those of which are especially found in antiperspirants to stop you from physically excreting sweat) kill off certain bacteria, allowing for worse bacteria to multiply.
Sure, aluminum can keep your pits dry but really think about it – there’s nothing natural about clogging your sweat ducts. Now, we know that ingredients like these in many conventional antiperspirants and deodorants are also endocrine disruptors. Disrupting your hormones can cause inflammatory skin conditions that contribute to body odor, aside from more serious conditions like infertility or even cancer.
As a former dancer, I depended on clear, Secret-brand antiperspirants for years because I felt so embarrassed about sweat marks or noticeable deodorant in my pits, but now I try to use more natural options to better benefit my hormonal health and body odor as well.
My personal fave is Salt & Stone’s extra strength deodorants because they essentially smell like a luxury perfume, but other hot girl-approved brands are Native, Caudalie, Megababe, Kopari, Agent Nateur, Oars and Alps, and many more.
But, hey, deodorant only scratches the surface for smelling sexy. There are tried and true hot girl strategies for washing your armpits too. Products that use glycolic acid, AHA, or benzoyl peroxide can prevent your pits from smelling poorly. When you exfoliate the dead skin cells that sit on top of your skin, a fresh layer is then revealed. Removing old skin through proper, gentle exfoliation nips bad bacteria in the bud!
Mind Your Mouth
Bad breath is such a huge turn-off, and while some people suffer from serious dental conditions, most of us have no excuse for smelly breath. Look, there’s so much delicious food out there that might cause temporary bad breath. I’m not telling you to stop eating delicious things, but instead to be mindful of the different ways you can combat their lingering odors.
As mentioned earlier, when you drink too much alcohol too quickly, diacetic acid lingers until your body can properly excrete all that alcohol. A little bit of whiskey or wine can make a makeout sesh smell (and taste!) super sexy, but too much can cause alcohol breath. Furthermore, since alcohol is a diuretic, you may experience dry mouth, which is one of the biggest culprits of bad breath.
How can you stop bad breath in its tracks? One pretty obvious answer is to regularly brush your teeth with products formulated to prevent bacterial growth. I’ve always been a big fan of dental products that have baking soda in them, but in addition, you might want to test out products that combat demineralization.
Hot girls are all about nano-hydroxyapatite toothpaste lately. I know, I know, it’s literally a mouthful. But despite its complex name (often abbreviated as nHA), this ingredient can reverse bacterial damage on your tooth enamel. Tooth decay not only leads to general sensitivity but also causes microscopic cracks and full-fledged cavities that allow harmful bacteria to linger in our mouths.
Toothpaste and mouthwash which uses fluoride as a main ingredient can kill the good bacteria in your mouth, while nHA products repel bacteria and reinforce your precious enamel. I’m head over heels for the Boka brand toothpaste (Coco Ginger has to be the best toothpaste flavor ever invented, in my opinion), but Risewell and Bite are brands that are similarly on the rise for their remineralization abilities.
It may be a total drag to remember, but hot girls also keep flossing in their daily routine. At least once a day, you should floss or use a Waterpik to remove any little bits and bobs of your food and bev that may have become lodged between your teeth throughout the day.
One dentist on a Reddit thread devoted to learning how to never smell bad also added how you need to scrape your tongue. “Patients always ask me why their breath smells and I give them a mirror and tell them to stick out their tongue. The way they gasp when they realize,” the dentist wrote. “Get a METAL tongue scraper for less than $5 and have breath that has zero smells.”
Finally, hot girls don’t go anywhere without some sort of breath freshener in their purses. Whether you’re a fan of sugar-free gum and mints, portable mouthwash tablets, or natural breath sprays, you should always make sure you’ve got something small stashed away for those moments when you’ve, say, finished a cup of coffee and would rather be caught dead than go into your morning meetings with coffee breath.
Spritz Sparingly
Perfume should really be thought of as an accent to smelling irresistible, not the only thing you rely on. You should first improve your hygiene before you open your wallet to invest in a high-end perfume, but if you’re trying to find your signature scent, there are several important things to keep in mind.
Traditional perfumes are getting better about reducing endocrine-disrupting ingredients in their perfumes, but many still use hormone disruptors or carcinogens like phthalates, parabens, limonene, benzyl acetate, and more. Many fragrance brands evade the FDA’s requirements to list product ingredients since fragrance formulas can be considered a trade secret. Lucky for you, Evie has a vetted list of perfume brands that are hormone-friendly and cleaner than most conventional fragrances.
When hot girls go to spritz on some fragrance, they always try to apply a bit on “hot spots” like behind their knees, on their décolletage, the back of their neck, the small of their back, their ankles, and, of course, the classic – behind their ears. And don’t forget to dab, don’t rub!
If you’re not into perfumes and colognes, no worries. There are plenty of other topical sources for fragrance. Scented body oils are loved by some hot girls because they can be used instead of your average body cream, which contains gross additives. (That’s my subtle hint to you to throw out that huge tube of Bath and Body Works lotion that’s been aging in your bathroom for years now.) Saltair and Sol De Janeiro’s body oils are some much-loved products that will have you smelling like a million bucks.
Essential oils are another tried and true method for smelling great without perfume, but you should always use a carrier oil (almond, jojoba, or sesame oil) when applying essential oils because they act as a safe base, dilute the scent, and improve your skin condition. Then, you can experiment with your favorite aromas – from cedarwood to lavender and more. But remember, just because essential oils are all natural doesn’t mean they can’t cause allergic reactions! Test out an oil on a small area first.
Steer Clear of Synthetics
It’s pretty hard to totally remove synthetic fabrics from your day-to-day life, but when you can make smart swaps for natural fabrics you totally should because they’ll help you smell sexier. Synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, spandex, and rayon are very tightly woven, which means that any sweat you naturally excrete gets locked into your clothing. These types of textiles are hydrophobic and are often designed to dry faster and repel moisture – but the fabrics also trap your sweat and cause a lingering stench.
If you want your body to breathe, you should switch to natural fibers like cotton, linen, and bamboo, but if you can’t find articles of clothing that are 100% natural, just know that blends can be a good bet for reducing the smell of trapped sweat. At Evie, we’re big fans of brands like Pact, Quince, Everlane, and more, which prioritize natural fibers.
Though they’re not wearables, your body will also smell its best if you use bedding made out of natural fibers. If you’ve ever experienced the dreaded night sweats from using polyester sheets and comforters, you’ll know that there’s nothing hot (aside from the temperature of your body) about sleeping on synthetics. It should go without being said, but washing your bedding regularly is also a must – whether you’re into night showers, morning showers, or both.
Suds It Up Smartly in the Shower
There’s a lot of discourse about how frequently we should be showering. Some people insist that you should shower once a day, while others think twice is the standard. Some prefer a shower in the morning and a bath at night, but in any case, you should at least be cleansing your body once a day to remove any sweat and even grime off the surface of your skin. If you’re strapped for time and can’t do an “everything shower,” you should focus your cleansing and scrubbing on the spots of your bod with the most sweat glands, a.k.a. armpits and groin.
Here’s your friendly reminder to go out and replace your loofah. Synthetic loofahs may not be as good as the natural kind, but no matter the type of loofah you use, they’re a hot spot for bacteria because they exfoliate dead skin cells.
When you’re picking out the body wash or cleanser to scrub yourself clean, you may be inclined to go antibacterial, but this might actually backfire on you and worsen your natural scent. Antibacterial products don’t just kill bad bacteria, they kill good bacteria too.
My personal favorite (and most affordable pick) is Dr Teal’s Detoxify & Energize body wash because of the added magnesium from pure Epsom salts (and absorbing magnesium topically is one of the best ways to do it!), but if you’re looking for a more luxe scent, Malin+Goetz, Salt & Stone, Ouai, Nécessaire, and Naturium are some tried and true classics.
Next up in your shower routine is hair care, and guess what? Hot girls don’t wash their hair every day. I know, it could seem counterintuitive, but if you wash your hair every day, you could actually dry out your strands and scalp and smell way less sexy.
Take a page from the “curly girl” playbook, where women go longer periods of time without washing their hair. Extending the period of time you go in between washes can be beneficial for hair and scalp health.
Now, if you’re going longer periods of time – and I’m talking like two, three, or four days here, not weeks – you might experience some buildup on your scalp. This is natural. Hot girls combat this by exfoliating their scalps. When you exfoliate your scalp, you relieve any potential dandruff by removing dead skin cells, balance out the natural sebum, and rid yourself of any hair product build-up. Build-up of products or dead skin cells leads to a worse odor, so periodically, you should try exfoliating your scalp.
You don’t need to do it every time you wash, but at least a couple times a month before you shampoo, use a scalp scrub or exfoliating rinse, and your head will literally feel better and smell fresher. Apple cider vinegar (ACV) based rinses are all the rage among hot girls lately – from dpHue’s viral hair rinse to Sunday Riley’s take and even Pacifica.
But, if you’re looking for a more standard scrub, brands like NatureLab (my personal fave), Kristin Ess, and Mielle make thicker options for you to exfoliate with. If you’re feeling a bit crafty you can also try making your own DIY scalp exfoliants.
Once you’re out of the shower and getting your hair dry, you might want to test out using a nicely scented hair oil, or, if you use leave-in conditioner, you could add a couple drops of lavender, orange, or jasmine essential oils to your regular products. I personally prefer already formulated hair oils and can’t rave enough about how the Verb Ghost Weightless Oil smells and makes my hair look after it’s dry and styled.
Okay, lightning round. You’re going to be styling your hair with many types of tools (brushes, combs, clips, ties) during different days (dirty hair or clean), so you should regularly wash your styling tools. If you’re feeling extra bougie, maybe consider lightly perfuming them with essential oil soaks as well.
Experts will tell you: Don’t spray your hair with perfume. It may seem like an easy way to mask day-four hair, but perfume isn’t made for your hair, it’s made for your skin. Some of the ingredients in perfumes can dry out your hair, like alcohol, but there are hair fragrances you could experiment with if you’re really looking for a one-for-one. What’s more, a lot of hair fragrances are sister products to irresistible smelling perfume brands like Chanel and Balmain, or more affordable brands like Sol de Janeiro, Rare Beauty, and Moroccanoil.
Finally, if you’re anything like me, you may opt for dry shampoo to really go that extra day without washing your hair. Totally normal thing to do, but you should be wary of certain dry shampoos. Conventional dry shampoos won’t kill you, but many contain potentially risky ingredients that you’re better off avoiding if you can.
Dry shampoos that are formulated with rice starch, tapioca starch, or arrowroot powder and don’t contain talc or synthetic fragrances are your best bet for a cleaner hair refresh. You may think that natural dry shampoos aren’t as effective as the staple brands like Batiste, but once you try out the products like Verb’s Dry Shampoo, Kerastase Fresh Affair Dry Shampoo, or Amika’s Perk Up Talc-Free Dry Shampoo, you might change your mind. I know they’re a bit more of a splurge, but trust me, they’re worth it.
Stay Active
Hot girls aren’t scared to sweat. Look, I know, it seems super counterintuitive to exercise in order to smell better, but regular exercise can improve your body’s natural odor.
"The more you sweat out and irrigate your body's natural channels, the cleaner your baseline body odor will run," said Juan Felipe, a certified aromatherapist and perfumer, in an interview with Byrdie. "Think of it as a detox that not only supports your stamina, but also your scent."
Research backs this up: Sweating during a workout detoxifies your body by expelling accumulated toxins and preventing unwanted, lingering body odor.
Here’s the catch: You shouldn’t be caught unprepared and unable to freshen up after a good workout sesh. I’m not saying that you need to hop in the gym shower right after you finish spin class, but hot girls pack their gym bags with some smart essentials to quickly and easily freshen up without hassle.
You should carry a travel-sized deodorant, blotting sheets or travel-sized bottle of micellar water, and a travel-sized container of dry shampoo. Sorry not sorry for the TMI, you might also want to consider keeping baby wipes or feminine wipes in your bag to freshen up down there after you’ve just been getting super sweaty.
Closing Thoughts
