As we get older, we have less time with our friends. It’s an unfair part of aging, but it doesn’t always have to be this way. It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that having a girls’ night is reserved for someone’s birthday or a bachelorette party, but you don’t have to celebrate something specific to have a fun night with your friends.

Whether you want to have a chill girls’ night in or an exciting girls’ night out, the possibilities are endless. Next time you text the girls to get together, suggest one of these ideas to celebrate your friendships.

How To Have a Girls’ Night Out

A GNO doesn’t necessarily mean you need to go bar-hopping and spend your money on overpriced drinks. You can do that if you want, but there are definitely more budget-friendly, wholesome ways to spend an evening with the girls.

Take a Group Cooking Class

Many of us know that a cooking class is a great date night idea, but it can be just as fun with your girlfriends! It doesn’t matter if you and your friends are experienced cooks or have limited knowledge on the topic, you can pick a class to fit the skill level of your group.

Feeling FOMO from seeing every influencer you follow living it up in Italy this summer? Try a pasta making class to live out your dreams without draining your bank account!

Take a Paint and Sip Class

Whether you’re a seasoned artist or haven’t picked up a paintbrush since elementary school, a paint-and-sip class is perfect for a girls’ night out. You can not only pick a class based on your group’s skill level but can look into theme nights, from the style of the painting to the types of drinks served.

If you aren’t into drinking, you should keep your eye out for a mocktail night or search for a paint-and-sip center that serves more than alcohol. If you're dog lovers, you can choose to go on a night where you can paint pictures of dogs. The options are almost endless, making it the perfect idea for a relaxing GNO.

Take a Candle Making Class

This is perfect if you and your friends are both creative and looking for a chill night out. You can customize your experience by choosing a class that has what you’re looking for, from a BYOB class to one where you make organic candles.

The best part is that at the end of the night, you’ll have a candle to remember it by. Every time you light it, you’ll be reminded of the memories you made.

Go to a Winery

This might be the most expensive option on this list, but it’s worth it if you and your friends like wine or exploring new places. Check to see what kind of tour packages your local winery has (you might be surprised at the deals you can find on sites like Groupon), from group tours to private tastings.

You can have more fun by packing a picnic, coordinating outfits (we all have a dress in our closet that we’re dying to wear to a winery), and taking cute pictures of your day or filming a mini vlog.

Movie and Drinks

If you haven’t seen Barbie yet or want to make the most of this summer’s blockbusters, why not make a girls’ night out of it? Seeing a movie and grabbing dinner or drinks afterwards is an underrated way to have a fun night with your girlfriends. You can not only talk about the movie over a delicious meal but use the time to unwind and catch up.

How To Have a Girls’ Night In

If you don’t feel like going out, there are countless ways to have a fun girls’ night at home. It may take some creativity, but we promise it’s worth it.

Theme Party

You may think that theme parties are for kids' birthday parties and frat house basements, but you can have an incredibly chic and tasteful one with your friends with some creativity. The hardest part will be choosing a theme, as the limit for fun ideas does not exist (side note: Mean Girls would be a great theme).

Pick a theme based on something that you and your friends enjoy, like Taylor Swift, the color pink, Disney, Old Hollywood, country music, or anything else you can possibly think of. Once you choose your theme, search for ideas for outfits, food, drinks, decorations, and activities on Pinterest or TikTok. You’ll find fun ideas that can fit any budget, but you can also do things for free, like make a fun playlist for the theme or make color-coded snacks from foods already in your pantry.

Make Mood Boards

Mood boards, vision boards, whatever you want to call them. There's no question they're a cute and creative craft to make and why not do it with your besties by your side? Tell everyone to come prepared with printed photos of their choosing (from Pinterest, Instagram, old magazines, whatever they prefer) and you can have a night full of inspiration and good conversation.

Game Night

Like theme parties, game nights aren’t just for kids. Have each friend bring a board game, card game, or game idea alongside something to eat or drink. If you want to take it to the next level, choose a theme for the games and snacks, like the ‘90s or 2000s.

If you don’t choose a theme, anything goes for food and drinks. You can order from your favorite sushi place or have your friends bring some of their favorite party snacks. Whichever direction you choose, be sure to embrace the fun of the evening.

Movie Night

There’s nothing quite as comforting as popping popcorn and eating junk food on the couch while watching some of your favorite movies with friends. It’s as simple as it is fun, making it the perfect idea for a girls' night in.

You can pick a couple of your favorite movies or turn it into a theme. If you want to have a Legally Blonde double feature, have everyone wear pink and drink pink drinks. If you want to watch all three High School Musical movies, have a nostalgic night with some of your favorite snacks from middle school and high school.

Spa Night

Remember those DIY face mask recipes you memorized from Seventeen Magazine in high school? It’s time to put them to good use with a relaxing spa night. Channel your teenage days by mixing it up with store-bought nail polish and other products while using DIY treatments (if you don’t know any, feel free to look some up on Pinterest), from masks to scrubs.

Get some healthy snacks like a vegetable platter with hummus (don’t forget the cucumbers to put on your eyes), and make some spa water. Create an ambiance with calming music and top it off with a girlie yet nostalgic movie like Clueless.

DIY Mocktail or Cocktail Night

This is the perfect night in if your friends are creative and like to try new things. Pick a theme like a holiday, color, or favorite movie, and have a night making and serving either cocktails or mocktails based on that theme.

You can find a lot of fun ideas for both cocktails and mocktails on Pinterest or TikTok. Don’t be afraid to go outside the box and get creative with props (if you want to do this, make sure to plan ahead) or mix up recipes. This is about having fun, not being master mixologists, so make sure you’re not too critical of your creation.

Closing Thoughts

You don’t have to wait for a special occasion to have your next girls’ night. No matter your budget, it’s never a bad idea to get creative and celebrate your friendships!
