If you’ve grown tired of the same straight-shaped coats and cardigans, a bomber jacket is a great piece to add to your wardrobe, as it offers a little more room in the arms and a radically different silhouette. A lighter alternative to a puffer jacket, the bomber jacket is comfortable, warm, and super stylish. And yes, it can be styled in a feminine and flattering way!

One of the most appealing features of the bomber jacket is that you can find one in almost any material, pattern, or color (just take a look here at 17 of our favorites!)

A key component of a fall capsule wardrobe as well, the bomber jacket will work together with the rest of your fall basics to create adorable, fun outfits that we’ve been waiting all year to wear. You can wear it with a dress, jeans, leggings, boots, sneakers – it also makes a great layer for teachers!

The bomber jacket is definitely worth the space in your closet, especially as a transition piece from summer to fall, or even winter to spring! It’s lightweight, versatile, and effortless. But how do you style it?

Athleisure

Especially in the crisp autumn weather, athleisure wear is ideal for running errands or picking up the kids from school. A bomber jacket is the perfect layer to throw over your leggings and sweater for an elevated look at the grocery store, especially if you choose a quilted or even a satin glossy coat.

Monochrome

I know we’ve seen a lot of monochrome looks heading into the fall season and they can be intimidating to put together, so let me remind you that just about anything can be used in a monochrome, off-duty model kind of way. Obviously, this includes the bomber jacket. An all-black monochrome look with a bomber jacket is very LA-girl chic, whereas earthy tones is delicate and fall-ish. Feel free to alternate colors as well, or use your boots and accessories to add contrast to a monochrome look. Simple layered necklaces or a hat are also great pieces to add dimension to your outfit!

One tip for you: To avoid looking like you stepped off the set of Top Gun, stay away from a monochrome olive or army green look. Although, a green jacket definitely can be styled a few other ways this fall!

Day or Night

One of the best parts of the bomber jacket is its versatility. While you can easily layer it over your gym outfit or for running errands, it also looks great for a night out. Whether you typically wear a LBD or jeans and a blouse, a nice bomber jacket can have the same wearability as a chic blazer – just a little less business casual!

A simple white tank can be instantly elevated with the addition of a bomber jacket, which is a super cute look for shopping, brunch, or the pumpkin patch this fall! Corduroy is one popular fabric for pants, shackets, and bomber jackets, so I’d recommend using that fabric somewhere in your look as well!

For a bolder version of your favorite jacket, try a satin or even leather bomber jacket. It’s edgy, oversized, and comfortable. Lorelai Gilmore would approve!

Silhouettes

High-waisted pants have been a closet staple for a while now, and will continue to be a well-loved style throughout the fall. If you’ve been looking for a way to bundle up and still show off the high-waisted silhouette, the cropped bomber jacket is the perfect compromise.

And if you’re looking for a fun, sporty jacket for the fall, the athletic bomber jacket is reminiscent of your high school varsity jacket, but cooler. Paired with high-waisted jeans that show off your figure and a pair of white sneakers, this outfit is perfect for college!

Closing Thoughts

In addition to your coats and chunky loafers, add a bomber jacket to your fall wardrobe this season. Now the question is: how will you style yours?
