I Tried The 10 Most Raved About Trader Joe’s Products—Here Are My Thoughts
I’ve been doing my weekly grocery shopping at Trader Joe’s for quite some time now, and it’s safe to say I’m a TJ fangirl. I have the Trader Joe’s reusable bags, I look at all the Trader Joe’s recipes, and I’m tempted by the various Trader Joe’s specific cookbooks on the market.
And yes, I’ve tried all the classic products you’ve heard so much about. The Everything but the Bagel Seasoning, the cauliflower, well, everything. You name it, and I’ve probably tried it over the years. They’re known for their creative, novelty products, and I’m here to tell you whether or not they’re worth it.
If you’ve been eyeing some of their most popular products and wondering whether to add them to your cart next time, check out my list of some of Trader Joe’s most popular products, ranked from worst to best.
10. Sparkling Apple Cider Vinegar Beverages
Price - $1.69 / 12 Fl Oz.
These drinks are definitely popular. There must be some supposed benefits from the apple cider vinegar included, and the lemon and strawberry flavor is nice (I can’t get behind the ginger in the lemon flavor), but compared to a lot of the other raved about Trader Joe’s products, this one just doesn’t hold up.
9. Everything but the Bagel Seasoning Blend
Price - $1.89 / 2.3 Oz.
If you know anything about Trader Joe’s, you have heard tales of the Everything but the Bagel Seasoning. And it does taste just like an everything bagel. So don’t get me wrong, it’s good. There's not a whole lot of uses for this seasoning in day-to-day life however, unless you're using it to enhance your bagel with extra flavor or adding it into your eggs for breakfast. All in all, unless you’re really into everything bagels, I have to say it’s overhyped.
8. Mini Hold the Cone Ice Cream Cones (Chocolate Chip)
Price - $3.79 / 7.9 Oz.
These are delicious. The chocolate cone and ice cream hit the spot if you’re a chocolate lover like me. But honestly, I’d probably go for a bowl of normal ice cream over these. However, they're still great to have in the freezer for when you have a sweet tooth but just want something small and already portioned out for you.
7. Mandarin Orange Chicken
Price - $4.99 / 22 Oz.
If you’re a big orange chicken lover, then you’re going to love this product. It’s just as good as takeout like Panda Express and obviously cheaper. Serve it with some rice and veggies, and you have an easy, comforting weeknight meal.
6. Organic Tri-Color Spaghetti
Price - $2.49 / 16 Oz.
Let’s cut to the chase. This is a great pasta to have! It looks pretty, but still tastes good (*cough* gluten-free, fake pastas be gone) and makes a perfect weeknight meal if you don't have allergies or food intolerances. I love to add in tomatoes and zucchini to make my pasta even more colorful when I cook with this one.
5. Organic Naan Crackers
Price - $3.29 / 10 Oz.
Warning: these babies are addicting. You will have to put the box on a high shelf and walk away because these naan crackers are just that good. They have a great texture and taste like buttery goodness. You could eat them with hummus or with ham, which is usually my preferred method.
4. Cauliflower Gnocchi
Price - $2.99 / 12 Oz.
It wouldn’t be a Trader Joe’s article without some mention of gnocchi, would it? I’ve used this product a few times. It has a nice mild flavor (if you season it right, you just might forget you’re eating cauliflower), and it passed my “making a quick meal in my college dorm before running off to class” test. All in all, this is a good thing to have in your freezer. Toss in some peas or another spring veggie you can easily find frozen for added flavor.
3. Almonds, Chocolate, and Cashews Trek Mix
Price - $5.99 / 14 Oz.
Trader Joe’s is also known for their trail mix, or as they call it, “trek mix.” And for good reason. You can get both tasty and reasonably priced trail mixes, and while they have a good-sized variety, I always come back to this classic option. The chocolate is just sweet enough without making this feel like a complete dessert. Have it on its own or up your protein by eating it alongside some greek yogurt for an afternoon snack.
2. Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
Price - $4.49 / 16 Oz.
These are amazing! You just might find yourself eating the whole box on your own. Or, my favorite is to mix them into brownies. My roommates and I devoured the brownies we made with these embarrassingly fast.
1. Mac and Cheese Bites
Price - $3.99 / 10 Oz.
Maybe it’s the nostalgia of this fun snack (or, from time to time, meal, let’s be honest), since I grew up on these, that has me putting them so high up on the list, but I really think this is one of Trader Joe’s best products. The breaded outside combined with the mac and cheese inside hits the spot, and all you have to do is take the box out of the freezer and bake them. So easy you’ll do it every week! (Did I mention this product could be dangerous?)
Closing Thoughts
Trader Joe’s does an amazing job of creating novelty products that everyone wants to try. Grab one of these raved about products next time you're checking off your grocery list for the week and you may just find your newest go-to snack. Happy shopping!
