On June 25, 2023, rapper Ice Cube took to Twitter to share a message to his fans, garnering over 10 million views and nearly 100,000 likes in less than 24 hours. He bashes the NBA and the sports media for not covering the Big3, a basketball league he founded with executive Jeff Kwatinetz.

According to the controversial Friday star, he's not a part of the "club of gatekeepers that we all got to deal with." Without giving too many details, he claims that "you know who they are, and they definitely know who they are." Later on in the video, he appears to accuse the NBA and mainstream media of intentionally excluding his league.

"Some of you may not realize that I'm not part of the club," he says. "A lot of you listening to me right here, right now, you're not part of the club either. And what I realize with the club is, what makes them so mad is, when you don't want to be a part of their f*cking club. That pisses them off. What club am I talking about? I'm talking about the club that gatekeepers that we all got to deal with."

"You know who they are, and they definitely know who they are," he adds. "A lot of people would be like, 'What? Who? Who? Who?' C'mon, man, stop playing. So, ever since I put out the contract with Black America, you know they've been f*cking with me. Here and there, this and that. But it's cool, you know. I expect that. You know I've been on the Big3 for a long time, and you know how they've been f*cking with me with that."

The Big3 will soon begin its sixth season this Sunday, showcasing 12 teams featuring athletes that are mostly younger players and former NBA contributors wanting to make a breakthrough. As of right now, the Big3 is not partnered with the NBA.

"I've made it plain, simple, and clear, what they've been doing. You know, the NBA been f*cking with us. Now, a lot of people might say like, but, 'Cube, we want to work with the NBA.' Really, I don't give a f*ck about working with the NBA. What I want them to do when I say work with us, is to stop working against us. Stop doing that bullsh*t behind the scenes that we know you're doing. Mainstream media, you know they ain't f*cking with us."

Ice Cube hints that he will start a podcast where he speaks his mind. "And that's cool, we can do it ourselves, you know what I'm saying? We're still on the rise without these motherf*ckers. So we don't need them, you don't need them. So, what am I going to do to deal with these motherf*cking gatekeepers? Well, what I'm going to do is go on a 'F*ck the Gatekeepers' podcast tour," the rapper states. "And I'm going to go talk to everybody, you know, and get a chance to get my message out to the people. Be able to let people hear from me, and you might agree, you might not. But the important thing is for me to go on these platforms, say what I feel about what I think. And some people may get pissed off because I'm going to talk to everybody."

"I'm not playing. And it's going to be a crazy summer. It's going to be fun. Appreciate y'all. Always support the Big3. Hopefully, I'm doing stuff that you guys dig. You know, I'm not doing this for me. I'm doing this for people that's bored as f*ck in the summer with summer sports and want something cool like the Big3. So, here we are," Ice Cube concludes. "Appreciate you. Much love, much respect from your homeboy Ice Cube. Remember that."

This is not the first time the "It Was a Good Day" rapper made headlines for controversial remarks. In 2020, Ice Cube came under fire for his "antisemitic" posts. He once shared an image of slaves under a gameboard of Monopoly being played by rich men. The caption on it said, "All we have to do is stand up, and their little game is over." Additionally, he shared various images of black cubes worldwide (including one inside the Star of David).

Ice Cube later denounced these antisemitic claims later on, tweeting, "No matter how times I tell some people I hate Antisemitism and Racism they still wanna keep this narrative going for some strange reason."
