It seems that Kate Middleton is still missing.

For months, the Princess of Wales had gone missing from the media, spurring theories on her whereabouts.

Then, there was a collective sigh of relief when Kensington Palace released the first photo of Kate Middleton since her abdominal surgery in January.

After news websites reported the image of Middleton smiling alongside her three children (Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis), it was found that the photograph may have been altered. Agencies have released a "kill notice" on the allegedly edited picture.

The Associated Press (AP) Reuters and Getty Images have issued the notice, stating that “At closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image," according to a message from AP.

Was the Photo of Kate Middleton Fake?

According to AP, "While there was no suggestion the image was fake, AP pulled the photograph from circulation because it did not meet its photo standards."

Meanwhile, Getty Images says, “For editorial reasons, please remove the following image(s) from your system and do not use in any manner.” Sources have informed the Mirror the photo agencies believe the photograph of Kate Middleton and her kids had been altered from the original.

Social media users noticed inconsistencies within the image before the announcement. Princess Charlotte's arm, for example, did not line up correctly with her sleeve.

@NerdyTeacher_ on the platform believes that the "obviously fake photo" had many "unexplainable issues."

A woman on X thinks that the latest photograph of Middleton may have been a cover photo from Vogue years ago.

Another X user posted a meme, writing, "Her: I bet he’s thinking about other women Him: Why did Kensington Palace release a fake photo?! WHERE IS KATE MIDDLETON?!?! #KateMiddleton."

On March 10, 2024, the official account of the Prince and Princess of Wales posted a photo of Middleton smiling with her kids. "Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months," they wrote in the caption. "Wishing everyone a Happy Mother's Day. C.📸 The Prince of Wales, 2024."

The post now has a community guidelines note that reads: "Photo agencies, including AP and AFP, have removed this photo from distribution upon suspicion that it is manipulated or otherwise digitally altered." Many are now asking to see the original image.

Middleton supposedly shared an update on the official account, stating that she was the one who edited the image. "Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing. I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused," the post read. "I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C."

The question still stands: Where is Kate Middleton?
