Fans Claim Jamie Lee Curtis "Robbed" Angela Bassett And Stephanie Hsu Of An Oscar Win: "You Could See The Defeated, Broken Look On Bassett's Face"
Jaime Lee Curtis has taken home an Oscar for "Best Supporting Actress," and fans are upset it didn't go to Angela Bassett or Stephanie Hsu. Here's what the audience has to say about it.
Jaime Lee Curtis took home an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Everything Everywhere All At Once, and fans are incredibly upset about it. Her co-star, Stephanie Hsu, often praised for her stellar performance in the film, was a nominee for the same award, and so was the talented Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
Twitter users are not holding back on their opinions, and many believe Bassett and Hsu were "snubbed." "you’re telling me that corny ass Performance from Jaime lee curtis was better than this piece of Art Angela Bassett delivered?" tweets @Dr7gns, followed by a scene from Black Panther.
"i am genuinely so mad rn stephanie hsu was absolutely ROBBED there is no way you watch everything everywhere all at once and decide JAMIE LEE CURTIS is somehow the standout of that film. im so freaking mad, she absolutely did NOT deserve that," says @sitcomabed, sharing a video of Hsu's audition for Everything Everywhere All At Once.
But viewers weren't the only people who were upset. Bassett seemed close to tears when Curtis was announced as the winner. "Angela Bassett’s reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis’ name being called…you can tell how much that Oscar would have meant to her. she is, was, and always will be incredible. I better see her on that stage SOON," tweets @SpencerAlthouse.
"Wow, they actually snubbed #AngelaBassett …" @GraceRandolph shares on Twitter. "You could see the defeated, broken look on Bassett’s face…"
Jaime Lee Curtis hasn't had the best year so far. Earlier this year, the 64-year-old faced backlash for posting an Instagram photo of her office that included an image of a naked child in a bin. Curtis broke her silence one week later after coming under fire. "Last week I posted a picture of some chairs that included a photograph on the wall by an artist that was gifted to me 20 years ago," she wrote. "I understand it has disturbed some people."
"As I have said, I am a truth teller so here's the truth," she continued. "It's a picture of a child, taken by her mother, of her playing in their backyard in a tub of water. Nothing more, nothing less. I took down the post because I didn't want to keep something up that upset anyone."
