Jon Voight Reconciles With Daughter Angelina Jolie: "I'm Happy When Angie Is Happy. When's She's Down, I'm Down"

Jon Voight, the 85-year-old Academy Award-winning actor, continues to stand firm in his political beliefs, even as he faces overwhelming opposition from Hollywood. This, coupled with his deep love for his daughter, Angelina Jolie, paints a picture of a man committed to both his ideals and his family.

Voight's support for Donald Trump has been unwavering, despite countless Hollywood attacks and hit pieces.

“I’ve been the most outspoken supporter of Donald Trump in Hollywood. I’ve been saying he’s the answer, the only answer,” he recently told Variety, unbothered by the entertainment's industry attempts to shame him.

“I only have a few years left," he added, "and I want to spend them trying to save our American way of life. It’s slipping away forever."

However, Voight’s support for Trump has not come without personal costs, particularly in his relationship with his formerly estranged daughter, Angelina Jolie. The actor’s political views sharply contrast with Jolie’s, but despite these differences, Voight’s love for his daughter also remains unshaken.

“I love my daughter—that’s No. 1. I am happy when Angie is happy. When she’s having a tough time, I’m having a tough time. When she is down, I’m down,” he confessed, his eyes welling with tears.

Jolie has also expressed her love for Voight on multiple occasions, including during her Oscar acceptance speech in 2000, saying, "Dad, you’re a great actor, but you’re a better father.”

Years later, she recalled Voight’s reaction, adding, “He told me that that was one of the biggest compliments somebody could give him, that it was so important to be a great father. And so, it was an exceptional night for everybody in my family.”

However, they became estranged during Jolie's second divorce in 2003 when Voight said that he wanted Jolie to get help.

“I’m always trying to reach her and send her my love,” Voight said in a 2008 interview. Thankfully, that same year, they talked to each other on Christmas Day.

“We have spoken, and we are going to try to get to know each other and maybe try not to be this daddy and daughter, but to be there for each other as friends in the coming years,” Jolie explained.

Jolie’s divorce from Brad Pitt ultimately brought them together again.

“He’s been very good at understanding they needed their grandfather at this time,” Jolie said of Voight during the divorce. "Jon and I have gotten to know each other through grandchildren now," she added. "We’re finding a new relationship.”

Voight, too, had positive things to say about Jolie: “She’s very strong. And that persona is very rare. When you see Angelina, you know what’s coming, you know who she is. She’s like one of those people like [Humphrey] Bogart or Katharine Hepburn.”

However, their reconciliation hasn't stopped Voight from criticizing some of Jolie's recent political stances.

Voight also told Variety he believes that Jolie has been misled by propaganda.

“She has been exposed to propaganda. She’s been influenced by antisemitic people. Angie has a connection to the U.N., and she’s enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees,” he argues, expressing a hope that she will one day see the truth. “I think she hasn’t been available to this information because in Hollywood people don’t share this kind of stuff. They’re way off. They have no idea what’s going on. It’s a bubble.”

In Voight’s view, the fight is not just political but moral and spiritual, too.

Although Variety attempted to portray him negatively, many see Voight as a man with a strong blend of patriotism and love for his family, hoping that, one day, his daughter will understand his perspective.
