Kat Von D Gets Baptized After Throwing Away Her Witch Books And Tarot Cards
Kat Von D converted to Christianity one year after renouncing witchcraft and the macabre – but not everyone supports her choice.
TV personality and tattoo artist Kat Von D has never shied away from her affinity toward all things witchy. In 2018 – when she still owned Kat Von D Beauty (now KVD Vegan Beauty) – she teased her tarot collection for her makeup brand. One of her popular black liquid lipsticks was titled "Witches," a theme that stayed consistent with her former collections "Alchemist" and "Saint and Sinner."
In 2022, Von D surprised her fans when she announced that she was throwing out her books on witchcraft, magick, and the macabre because they no longer "aligned" with the person she desired to be. "I don’t know if any of you have been going through changes in your lives right now, but in the last few years I’ve come to some pretty meaningful realizations – many of them revolving around the fact that I got a lot of things wrong in my past," the former LA Ink star shared on Instagram. "Today, I went through my entire library, and threw out books that just don’t align with who I am and who I want to be."
"I've always found beauty in the macabre, but at this point, I just had to ask myself what is my relationship with this content?" Von D added. "And the truth is, I just don't want to invite any of these things into our family's lives, even if it comes disguised in beautiful covers, collecting dust on my shelves." Von D also shared a photo of her occult collection in her post, which displayed piles of books on witchcraft, magick, and three decks of divination cards. She explained further how she's never been more aware of the "spiritual battle taking place" and wants to surround her family with "love and light."
Kat Von D Gets Baptized
It’s been over one year since Von D renounced witchcraft, and she has now converted to Christianity. On October 4, 2023, Von D posted a cross emoji in a caption of a video of her getting baptized as her friends and family celebrated.
The tattoo artist has received a wave of support since her announcement, though some of her fans have expressed disappointment. "This is really sad for me so I’m unfollowing," writes @rockabillybunny90. "Take care."
@sagelindemann says, "Former christian here...you're not missing out. Christianity is so gaslighting, full of fake hope and conditions everything. No, thank you."
"Another nutcase who thinks she's found the answer. I suggest you practice being a good person now and don't worry about the rest or anyone else," adds @gatsby 2008. "Practice the Golden Rule, that's all that's needed. Also, remember that those who speak do not know. Those who know, do not speak."
This is not the first time the 41-year-old has received backlash online. In 2018, Von D discussed her plans to not vaccinate her son. "If you don't know what it's like have people around you think you are ridiculous, try being openly vegan. And, if you don't know what it's like to have the entire world openly criticize, judge, throw uninformed opinions, and curse you – try being an openly pregnant vegan on Instagram, having a natural, drug-free home birth in water with a midwife and doula, who has the intention of raising a vegan child, without vaccinations," she said in a now-deleted caption.
Von D's openness is refreshing – especially when she knew how her audience would react to her newfound faith. But, unfortunately, not everyone was accepting. Despite her decision to convert to Christianity and distance herself from occult practices, Von D has consistently displayed her understanding and empathy toward people with different beliefs. She even said it herself on social media, writing, “In no way is this post designed to put anyone down if you’re into this stuff, because I think we are all on our own journey, and I love everyone regardless of where they might be at.”
