Katy Perry is back in the spotlight with her upcoming single, "Woman's World."

The "California Gurls" singer took to Instagram to share a snippet of the song with lyrics that seem to have been generated by ChatGPT. “Sexy, confident / so intelligent / she is heaven sent / so soft, so strong," Perry lipsyncs in her latest post.

While some fans are excited for Perry's long-awaited bop, many were left disappointed. "I was rooting for Katy but these lyrics are so dated it’s giving 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign material 😭 it’s over," wrote @yungrexhar on X/Twitter.

The Katy Perry and Dr. Luke Controversy

The social media audience soon discovered that "Woman's World" listed Dr. Luke as one of its writers on Genius.com. Perry has yet to confirm his involvement in the song or address the backlash.

Dr. Luke, whose full name is Łukasz Sebastian Gottwald, is an American songwriter and record producer who worked with Kim Petras, Kesha, Taylor Swift, and more.

What Did Kesha Accuse Dr. Luke Of?

When Kesha was only 18, she signed under Dr. Luke's label. In 2005, the singer and Dr. Luke attended Nicky Hilton's birthday party at her sister Paris's home in Hollywood Hills. According to the "TiK ToK" singer, as well as an account from her mom, Pebe Sebert, Dr. Luke reportedly drugged Kesha and took her to his hotel room and "raped her while she was unconscious."

Sebert says she received a call from her daughter after she woke up disoriented the next day. "Mom, I don’t know where I am. I think we had sex. I’m sore and sick. I don’t know where my clothes are. I think I need to go to the hospital,” she recalled of the phone call, per Vulture. However, Kesha did not go to a hospital, and in a later affidavit, Sebert says Kesha told her, “‘Mom, I just want to sing. I don’t want to be a rape-case victim. I just want to get my music out.’ I didn’t follow my instincts.”

Kesha did not release songs under Dr. Luke's label for a year following the alleged incident. In 2006, she signed with David Sonnerberg's DAS Communications and professionally became Ke$ha. After five years in the spotlight, DAS sued the singer for $14 million in unpaid commissions and sued Dr. Luke for $12 million for reportedly interfering in their partnership with Kesha, a story that her mom seemingly corroborates.

In the beginning, when Kesha signed with DAS, she allegedly told her mother, “Dr. Luke just called me, and I have 24 hours to fire my lawyer and my managers and go back with him. Anytime I get a contract, he’s going to come forward and basically say he owns me. What do I do?”

It was later revealed in the DAS case that Kesha had reportedly alerted people in her career and personal life since 2005 that Dr. Luke had "engaged in certain unethical and unlawful actions against her and that she did not want Gottwald to be part of her career going forward."

Yet, in 2014, Kesha later testified under oath and said, “Dr. Luke never made sexual advances at me” or gave her drugs. Lawyers for the singer argued later that Luke had "threatened her safety and livelihood" at the time. In early 2014, Kesha was checked into a rehab facility for an eating disorder after Dr. Luke allegedly pressured her to lose weight, which he denies. In October, Kesha filed a lawsuit against the producer, accusing him of sexual assault and battery. Dr. Luke filed his own countersuit the same day, later suing her for defamation.

Kesha also alleged that the producer raped Perry, which she denies. There was an outpour of support for Kesha from stars like Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff, Ariana Grande, Adele, and more. After years of litigation, Dr. Luke and Kesha reached a settlement in 2023.

Amidst the Katy Perry controversy, Kesha simply tweeted, "lol."
