Keke Palmer Doesn't Want To Set "Unrealistic" Body Standards: "It Is My Career To Look Good"
Keke Palmer reveals that she doesn't want to set "unrealistic" body standards on "Baby, This is Keke Palmer."
We love it when celebrities are honest. It took the Jenners and Kardashians a while to admit they got work done when they have a major influence in the beauty space. Luckily, other stars have gone against the grain, with some even admitting that their bodies aren't "realistic" thanks to their celebrity privileges.
This week, Keke Palmer went candid on her podcast Baby, This is Keke Palmer, to discuss her influence on beauty standards. While speaking with her trainer Corey Calliet, the 29-year-old revealed her inspo for staying fit. “It is my job [to stay fit[. Let’s not get crazy," she said. "I don’t want people thinking that I am setting unrealistic standards. I can afford a trainer, meal prep and a lot of things."
“It is expensive, but I am investing in my career because it is my career to look good. Not even is it my career to look good, it is my career choice to have the kind of career that I want to have… I specifically want to be in action. I specifically want to do certain things that would require me [to be fit], you know?" Palmer added. “I was always putting so much pressure on myself and I feel like with Nope, I got a great opportunity to do some action stuff and I definitely had already obtained a pretty fit body. But my frame has always been quite small, so it’s interesting after the baby to see all the extra stuff I have to work with and how much my fear of having extra weight actually became a strength as it pertained to weight training and working out … like it gave me so much more to work with and mold with.”
The actress explained that it's a "personal choice" to keep up with her routine and that it's not her intention to pressure women or Hollywood to live up to her standards. “I never want to put it on anybody," the Nope star revealed. "I always want to make it clear that when I am talking about fitness, health and wellness is that, ‘Your journey is your journey. You figure it out the way you can.’ And when you look at these celebrities and people in the industry, know that it is their job.”
The new mom also maintains that she's reaching her body goals through healthy and traditional methods – not through drugs like Ozempic, which recently became trendy in Hollywood. "It sucks … you know, I get the girls want to get into shape. But I hate that …" she admitted. "Ozempic, from my knowledge, I know it’s been made for people that have diabetes. Ever since the girls have been using it to lose weight, the folks with diabetes ain’t able to get [it], the prices have gone up.”
Ozempic has become the blockbuster drug for weight loss. Originally approved to treat type 2 diabetes, Ozempic functions by boosting insulin production from the pancreas, leading to improved regulation of blood sugar levels and converting glucose into usable energy. Moreover, it slows down the rate at which food leaves the stomach, resulting in reduced appetite and weight loss. It's been speculated for a while now that stars abuse the drug to maintain their physique, so Palmer's approach to postpartum weight loss is a breath of fresh air.
The podcast host and her boyfriend, Darius Jackson, welcomed their baby in February 2023. “Hey Son!!!! 1. Only 48hrs of being parents!” Palmer wrote in her Instagram post full of sweet photos featuring her newborn. She continued, “2. Darius always made me playlists when we first started dating, ‘Someone’ by El Debarge was a favorite. We became each other’s someone and made a someone, look at God! 😆 3. The baby love Rolling Ray, cause purrr. 4. ‘I’m not hiding the world from my son, I’m hiding my son from the world.’ Hahaha 5. I’m just playing, my baby face is on this slide. 6. And this slide 🤣🥹😅😍❤️🙏🏾😇😭”
