Kyle Filipowski's Girlfriend Accused Of "Grooming" Him In High School—Here's Everything You Need To Know

Kyle Filipowski, 20, was named ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Tournament MVP – but despite being a five-star player, NBA teams were reportedly hesitant to draft him. The potential reason is worrisome: Social media users theorize that his girlfriend allegedly groomed him in high school.

Kyle played basketball for the Duke Blue Devils and was recently dropped in the second round of this year’s draft. Naturally, experts were stunned when he fell out of the first round, though the Utah Jazz team eventually selected him with the 32nd overall pick.

Was Kyle Filipowski Groomed by His Girlfriend?

Kyle's girlfriend is Caitlin Hutchinson, and their age gap is speculated to be about eight years. While her age remains unconfirmed, an X account claiming to belong to the athlete's mother claims that Hutchinson is 28.

The rumor began when draft analyst Jonathan Givony explained on The Lowe Post Podcast what he’d heard about the MVP. According to sources, Kyle was nervous when answering questions about his girlfriend. “NBA teams are talking about the fact that they had questions about his girlfriend being so much older than him, why was he estranged from his family because of this whole situation," he said. "It’s a very, very odd situation. I personally don’t understand why it would cause him to drop like this into the second round.”

Then, two accounts on X/Twitter claiming to be Kyle's mother and brother added fuel to the fire.

His purported brother, Daniel Filipowski (@thedanielflip24), took to X to comment on a discussion regarding the NBA player. Daniel said the situation regarding Kyle and his girlfriend is a "lot more serious, extensive," and "unique."

Many believe that Caitlin manipulated Kyle into not speaking with his family again. In another post, Daniel urges a user to "read on Mormon grooming and brainwashing." He said that Caitlin "forced him [Kyle] to cut us off from his life almost two years ago. Sent us an email and everything. Basically the official 'goodbye letter.'"

The other account claims to be the mother, Becky, writing that Caitlin is "28 with an endgame 3 years ago to have a diamond ring on her hand when Kyle left Duke. HE WAS STILL IN HS."

This post was seemingly corroborated after a photo of Kyle and Caitlin at his high school prom resurfaced. If the math is correct, and the post regarding her age is true, then Caitlin would have attended his prom when she was 26. Kyle was either 17 or 18 at the time.

To make matters worse, Kev Mahserejian, a writer for sports site RotoBaller, shared photos of Kyle and Caitlin from 2017. Kyle would have been around 13, while Caitlin had just graduated college at 21.

So, how did Caitlin know Kyle ever since he was young? Initially, rumors circulated that the two were cousins. Mahserejian shared a screenshot between him and Taylor Filipowski, who appears to be Kyle's cousin, who states, "Cait isn't blood cousin. Parents just grew up together." Others believe she may have been a babysitter.

In another screenshot, a message by Taylor reads that Kyle was a senior in high school, and Caitlin would catch flights from Alabama to Massachusetts to watch him play basketball until "she started hanging out after the game. Staying around for the weekends etc. then he went to Duke and she followed."

"They got an off campus place I heard and he stopped hanging out with friends/the team etc," they added.

Kyle Filipowski has yet to address the allegations, and Caitlin Hutchinson has limited her comments on Instagram.
