A lawsuit filed Sunday accuses Jay-Z, born Shawn Carter, of raping a 13-year-old girl in 2000 alongside Sean “Diddy” Combs. According to the suit, the incident occurred at the MTV Video Music Awards after-party.

In a statement to NBC News, the rapper called the claims "idiotic" and suggested they belong in the criminal courts if there’s even a shred of truth. “These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!!” Carter wrote. “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case.”

U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York did not say if they were pursuing the case. But Tony Buzbee, the Texas attorney who has filed several lawsuits in previous months, doesn't seem to be backing down.

Who Is Tony Buzbee?

If Buzbee’s name sounds familiar, it might be because he’s already made waves accusing Diddy of assault and trafficking in multiple lawsuits. Now, with his close friend Jay-Z added to the mix, the legal and public drama has escalated to new levels.

On Instagram, Buzbee claimed he and his family are being “followed by mysterious people” and that his employees and clients are being harassed. He also accused Jay-Z of trying to intimidate him and his clients into silence. “I won’t be bullied or intimidated,” he wrote, signing off with a Marine veteran’s swagger: “I’m still THAT guy.”

The Allegations

The anonymous accuser, identified only as “Jane Doe,” alleges she was taken to an after-party following the 2000 VMAs. The lawsuit describes a chilling series of events: A limousine driver supposedly connected to Diddy invited her to the party, saying she “fit what Diddy was looking for.” At the party, filled with celebrities and illicit substances, she says she was given a drink that left her woozy.

According to the lawsuit, she was led to a room to rest, only for Combs and Carter to enter. What followed, per her claims, was a horrific assault involving both men. She says she managed to fend off Combs during part of the attack but left the house traumatized, eventually calling her father from a gas station.

Combs is already behind bars on federal charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and other crimes, with prosecutors hinting at more charges on the horizon, so it's no surprise that people are also suspecting Jay-Z of doing the same.

Jay-Z Fires Back: “We Protect Children”

Jay-Z continues to deny the accusations. “We don’t play these types of games,” he said, referencing his Brooklyn upbringing. “We protect children.”

He also called out what he sees as the toll on his family: “My wife and I will have to sit our children down… and explain the cruelty and greed of people. I mourn yet another loss of innocence.” There’s also a biting accusation in Jay-Z’s response: that the lawsuits against him and others are nothing more than orchestrated “conspiracy theories” and money grabs. He’s already filed his own legal actions against the accuser’s attorneys. Given his long-standing relationship with Diddy, it’s hard to ignore the possibility that Jay-Z may have turned a blind eye to some of his actions.
