"Legally Blonde" Prequel Series Follows Elle As A High School Student
The "Legally Blonde" prequel series, titled "Elle," will feature the iconic protagonist as a high school student.
Elle Woods is moving over to Prime Video.
On Tuesday, the streaming service revealed a Legally Blonde prequel titled Elle is in the works, and Reese Witherspoon's production company Hello Sunshine is in charge.
The prequel will follow protagonist Elle Woods in high school "as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love" in the 2001 comedy film, according to Prime Video.
Reese Witherspoon, who wore all pink and held a chihuahua, appeared on stage this week at Prime Video's presentation. "Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law School, she was just a regular '90s high school girl," she said.
The actress said the audience "will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do."
The head of TV for Amazon MGM Studios, Vernon Sanders, described the blonde figure as "one of the most quotable, iconic, and beloved characters that is ingrained in the fabric of Hollywood history."
There's still yet to be an announcement on who will play the young version of Elle or if Legally Blonde 3 is in the works. "I'm still hoping that 'Legally Blonde 3' is gonna come together in the right way," Witherspoon revealed on USA TODAY in 2022. "It's just like Top Gun. They waited a long time to make another version of that movie, and I loved the nostalgia piece they incorporated in it. So definitely that gave us a lot of inspiration about what we would want to do with Elle Woods and make sure that we had all those same touchstones that mattered to people (back) then."
