Thank goodness for Matthew Perry.

Actress Lisa Cash, who appeared on season 5 of Friends, revealed that she was originally part of a plot where Perry's character Chandler Bing cheated on Monica Cox's Monica Geller. The storyline was only axed because Perry did not want to continue with the scene.

“Basically, the scene was Chandler and Monica were arguing in Vegas … Chandler goes up to the hotel room, orders room service, and I bring it up as a hotel worker,” Cash informed TMZ. “And we end up talking, laughing and connecting, and Chandler ends up cheating on Monica with my character.”

Cash added that they had "rehearsed it and everything," but Perry asked the writers to change it the day before they were scheduled to shoot in front of a live audience. She said, "I was told that [he] went into the writers and said the audience would never forgive him for cheating on Monica, which he was probably right. That would have changed possibly the course of the show and his character.”

The audience would never forgive him for cheating on Monica.

This isn't the first time a cheating scene was scrapped from a popular show. In 2021, John Krasinski revealed that he refused to film a scene in The Office where he cheated on his on-screen wife, Pam (Jenna Fischer). His character, Jim, was supposed to kiss a temporary office administrator while Pam was out on maternity leave. I am not sure why writers want to ruin things for their audience, but luckily, Krasinski had our backs. "That's the only time I remember putting my foot down," he said. "I remember saying things that I never thought I'd say before, like, 'I'm not going to shoot it.'"

On October 28, 2023, Perry died at the age of 54. He was found in his hot tub at his residence. Cash paid tribute to her co-star, adding, “I felt so comfortable. He was really likable and welcoming and just made me feel at ease. I had fun. It was just really fun doing the scene with him, and it was easy doing the scene with him too. That was such a tribute to him, for making me feel comfortable with him like that."
