Meghan Markle Claims The British Press Calls Her Children "The N-Word" And Insists She Has Been Bullied On Social Media

Meghan Markle made a huge splash when she married Prince Harry and the two eventually gave up their royal titles (and duties). In a recent interview, she made some pretty bold claims about how the British press speaks about her children.

Over the last year, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, has spent much of her time in the limelight with her husband Harry. In a recent interview with The Cut, she spoke about the new podcast she's hosting, "Archetypes," as well as the scrutiny she and her family face in the media.

Meghan Markle Claims the British Press Calls Her Children "the N-Word" and Insists She Has Been Bullied On Social Media

There was widespread criticism when Meghan and Harry left the royal family; many accused her of marrying Harry for fame and stealing him from his family in order to chase her dreams of fame. One constant narrative she has perpetuated over the last year is one of racism. She has claimed that the British royal family has said racist things about her son (they allegedly questioned what the color of his skin would be), for example.

Her latest claim is quite similar. She spoke about the "structure" of showing the public photos of your children. "If you want to release photos of your child, as a member of the family, you first have to give them to the Royal Rota," Meghan said. The Royal Rota is the media pool in the U.K. Apparently, those photos would be released first by the press before she was permitted to post them. She didn't feel comfortable doing this.

“Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my child before I can share it with the people that love my child?” she continued. “You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game.”

That's a pretty bold accusation, but she didn't follow it up with any evidence that her children were called such a word. Meghan then talked about never wanting to get back on social media again because the bullying had allegedly been too much for her to handle. In April 2019, she and Harry started an Instagram called @sussexroyal and it gained 1 million followers in hours. They posted their own photos, whether or not they were approved, and had control of their online presence. However, the account was shut down after they gave up their royal positions. Meghan says she likely won't return to Instagram.

Instead, she's taking to Spotify to host her new podcast, where she'll interview guests and discuss the things that she wants to talk about, without any influence from the royal family.
