She rose to fame quickly when she starred in the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, and Millie Bobby Brown is now one of the most darling Gen Z stars in Hollywood. She was only 11 years old when she began filming the mysterious role of Eleven in season one. She expressed discomfort and disgust at the fact that there were countdown clocks online that were waiting for the day for her to turn 18 so they could talk about her sexually. "[I'm] definitely seeing a difference between the way people act and the way the press and social media react to me coming of age. It's gross," she said in a recent interview. “I deal with the same things any 18 year old is dealing with, navigating being an adult and having relationships and friendships, and it’s all of those things."

She turned 19 years old on February 19 and has been open about the struggles she faces living her life publicly. Millie just shared some personal news on her Instagram that surprised many fans.

Millie Bobby Brown Announces Her Engagement via a Taylor Swift Lyric

Millie, 19, has been dating Jake Bongiovi, 20, for about two and a half years. Jake is the son of musician Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley, and he was first linked with Millie in 2019 when they were seen holding hands in New York. Since then, they have been public about their relationship and often share sweet moments of their romance and love for each other.

In the past, she has referred to Jake as her "partner for life."

"Another year around the sun together happy 19th to the girl of my dreams. I love you more than words can describe. Everything about you is golden down to the core," Jake wrote in a caption celebrating Millie a couple of months ago.

The young couple surprised many when they seemingly announced their engagement on Instagram. Millie shared a black-and-white photo of herself being embraced by Jake, with a visible large diamond ring on that finger. "I've loved you three summers now, honey, I want 'em all 🤍," she wrote in the caption, referencing Taylor Swift's song "Lover."

Jake also shared two photos of the happy couple on his Instagram with the simple caption, "Forever."

You can't see the ring in these photos, but everyone is congratulating the two on their apparent engagement. Some fans have expressed concern about how young Millie is, and they wonder aloud if she's old enough to really understand what a lifelong commitment marriage is. Others are happy for her regardless of her age and wish her much happiness.

Then there are some fans who point out the ill timing of her using the Taylor Swift lyric from "Lover," considering the fact that Taylor and Joe Alwyn just broke up and that song was supposedly about their romance. A few people say it's not a good omen to use this lyric to announce your engagement, but others say it's silly to be so superstitious.

Millie's and Jake's representatives haven't confirmed their engagement yet to the media, but the congratulations are pouring in already.
