Neal McDonough Was "Blackballed" By Hollywood For Refusing To Kiss Any Woman Who Wasn't His Wife

Neal McDonough might be great at playing the villain in movies, but he's actually a kind and loving husband in real life.

Neal McDonough, best known for his role as Lieutenant Lynn "Buck" Compton in Band of Brothers, is the ideal husband. He often plays the villain in movies (and he's great at it, too!).

In a resurfaced video from 2019, the Yellowstone star said that he nearly lost everything after he refused to film sex and kissing scenes with other actresses.

The actor said he had a few conditions when he was hired to be on Desperate Housewives: He would not kiss his on-screen wife or do sex scenes. Then, when McDonough was cast as a sexual deviant for Boomtown, he told director Steven Spielberg the same thing. This man was going to stay faithful to his wife no matter what.

Unfortunately, this led to him getting blackballed, and he nearly lost everything. "They said, 'You have to do it, or we're going to fire you.' I'm like, 'Well, I'm not going to do it, so they fired me. I was blackballed for two years," McDonough said. "I couldn't get a job, and because of that, I lost my big beautiful house in Los Angeles, my shiny Mercedes, all my stuff, and my swagger. As you can imagine, at the time, I was really crushed."

He continued, "They thought I was some religious zealot. But to me, it was just that I didn't think it was the right thing to do, and also, I really love my wife. As I've said, and I'll say it a million times, these lips are meant for one woman."

"These lips are meant for one woman."

Naturally, McDonough was distraught, and he turned to alcohol. "I remembered this day like it was yesterday," he recalled. "I was so angry, and to God, I said, 'Why have you forgotten about me? Why are you doing this to me?'" That same day, he cried and "begged for his forgiveness" – and not long after, he received an offer from Hollywood writer Graham Yost.

McDonough and his wife of two decades, Ruvé, are devout Catholics and are proud parents of five beautiful children. To the actor, family comes first. "If I'm in bed with another woman, I don't want my kids to see that. I don't want my family to see that. I really don't want God to see that," he said.

Neal McDonough's decision to only kiss his wife deeply reflects values many of us cherish: loyalty, love, and sacrifice. His unwavering commitment to his marriage and strong principles is incredibly refreshing. In a culture where infidelity and compromise are glorified (I'm looking at you, Cosmo), the actor's refusal to compromise on his beliefs stands out as a testament to his love for his family. Everyone, take notes!
