New Data Reveals Hidden Conservative Beliefs Among Young Women

In a cultural moment where "progressive" talking points often dominate the discourse, a recent national survey sheds light on a startling revelation: many young women hold conservative beliefs but feel compelled to hide them. This survey not only uncovers this hidden truth but also offers a glimpse into the factors influencing the silencing of conservative inclinations among women.

This new survey challenges the prevalent idea that women are inherently more aligned with liberal ideologies. Among all women surveyed (80 percent of whom did not identify as conservative): 79 percent think a stay-at-home mom is equal in success to women in a professional field; 74 percent think kids should have the opportunity to attend a school of their choice, regardless of zip code; 71 percent oppose transgender surgeries for minors; 68 percent plan to be married with at least one child by the time they’re 30; 64 percent think hook-up culture is harmful to women; and 62 percent oppose men competing in women’s sports.

While many studies often portray a left-leaning trend among certain demographics of women, they fail to delve into the underlying reasons for this confusing alignment, especially given these new findings. However, the same survey also seems to point to the main reason, which is women's high prioritization of relationships. The survey found that 75 percent of the women cited the desire to avoid conflict, and another 10 percent feared losing friends or family. Among self-identified conservative women, 50 percent conceal their views and, in addition to avoiding conflict, 10 percent fear “being canceled” and 9 percent fear a negative effect on their grades. 42 percent of all women surveyed outright admitted that they conceal their views.

Another potential explanation for why women hold conservative beliefs but portray themselves as more liberal is likely the systemic influence of educational institutions, particularly in K-12 and higher education settings. From an early age, young women are exposed to a predominantly leftist worldview in government-run schools. While educators may have good intentions, the standardized curriculum perpetuates certain ideological biases, pushing impressionable minds toward progressive ideals. This indoctrination is further reinforced in higher education, where women outnumber men, and disciplines like education, women’s studies, and social sciences are dominated by limited leftist perspectives.

Moreover, the pervasive influence of social media exacerbates this phenomenon. With platforms like TikTok and Instagram serving as primary sources of news for most young women, the echo chambers of far-left ideologies thrive, rewarding conformity while ostracizing dissenting voices. The pressure to adhere to progressive norms becomes overwhelming, leading many women to conceal their true beliefs to avoid conflict.

The survey exposes a stark contrast between public perception and private convictions among young women. Despite the prevailing narrative, a significant majority hold conservative views on various social and cultural issues. Their reluctance to express these beliefs stems largely from a fear of social backlash, which poses a significant barrier to open discourse and relational health among young women.

These new findings highlight the pressing need to create more spaces that foster open dialogue and support for conservative ideals. Women must also embrace the inherent goodness of being honest and courageous in the face of criticism and slander. It's not easy, but it's the only way to have truly authentic relationships and pave the way for a more inclusive and virtuous society where diversity of thought is celebrated, not stifled.
