NYC Influencers Slammed On TikTok For Being "Boring" And "Basic"

NYC influencers are getting blasted on TikTok for being "boring" and "basic."

TikTok has turned its ruthless gaze on NYC influencers after one woman described them as “boring” and “basic.”

It all started when TikTok user @martinifeeny dropped the hottest take of the week, saying that she hates “all of the New York influencers.” She thinks “that they're boring as f*ck and they're all carbon copies of one another." Plus, "They all wear the same exact f*cking bracelet.”

She also added that NYC influencers “all look like they shop on Revolve. They're all just like basic *ss. Skinny, but they're skinny and pretty so stuff looks cute on them, but boring.”

User @leilove77 said that there's too much going on in the world to watch influencers go on trips and unbox PR packages. They're unrelatable, and their content feels soulless.

@hopeannwilliams on TikTok says that, unfortunately, the same influencers get pushed on the platform. They live an unrealistic lifestyle, and brands keep promoting them.

NYC Influencers Took Personally

You would’ve thought she accused them of tax fraud the way some of these influencers reacted. Many of them felt personally attacked, which makes sense (not every NYC influencer is the “same,” technically). They clutched their Stanley cups in distress (just kidding!) and scrambled to prove their individuality.

Acquired Style, an NYC-based influencer, stitched her video to mock her. The comments, however, noted how she only proved their point.

Are People Just Jealous, or Do They Have a Point?

Naturally, TikTok is divided. Some people think the critique is spot-on and that influencers have turned into an indistinguishable mass of aesthetically pleasing clones. Others argue that this is just jealousy in action.

One TikToker summed up that perspective, saying, "A lot of the people hating on New York City influencers are jealous."

At the end of the day, this is just another example of how social media is a snake eating its own tail. Influencers exist to influence, but when they all start influencing each other in the same way, the result is... well, this. But NYC natives have a different take. They say that these “influencers” aren’t even from New York; they’re all expats who moved there to chase some romanticized, TV-version of the city.
