Celebrating his 36th birthday, Posner took to social media to express that the once melancholic and self-destructive lyrics of his famous track no longer represent who he is today.

"On my 26th birthday, I wrote I Took A Pill in Ibiza…10 years ago," he shared. "The song became popular several years after I wrote it. Yesterday I celebrated my 36th birthday. I feel proud to look at the song lyrics and know that NONE of them are true anymore. I’ve grown into a completely new man…one that I’m proud of."

He then broke down the lyrics and offered his new perspective.

"26: I took a pill in Ibiza to show Avicii I was cool and when I finally got sober, felt 10 years older, but fuck it, it was something to do. [At] 36: I love myself more than ever, no longer do shit that harms my body to try to get people to like me."

When he wrote the song at 26, Posner was grappling with the pitfalls of fame, loneliness, and a sense of emptiness, as evident in the lyrics where he describes taking a pill in Ibiza to impress Avicii and engaging in reckless behavior to cope with his struggles. However, Posner has now found a new sense of purpose and fulfillment through his faith, self-love, and a deeper connection with his community and family.

"26: All I know are sad songs, sad songs," he went on. "36: I know sadness and pain very well, I also know how I overcame/overcome it. it is my duty to teach others to do the same. I know sad songs, but I also know redemption songs, songs of freedom, songs of faith, and songs of devotion."

In his recent reflections, Posner emphasized that he has grown into a "completely new man," one who no longer seeks validation through harmful behaviors or material possessions. Instead, he focuses on nurturing his relationships, including a renewed and profound relationship with God, and maintaining a mindset of "faith, love, and joy."

Posner's journey has also led him to take on significant physical and mental challenges, such as walking across America and climbing Mount Everest, which have further solidified his sense of self and purpose.

"I am the happiest I have ever been in my life and have sustained faith love and joy mindset for over a year and am not going back," concluded Posner.

People across social media celebrated Posner’s story of personal growth and redemption. Some thanked him for reminding the world that a good life is built on faith, love, and meaningful connections.
