J.K. Rowling says she's "done" and has contacted her lawyers about a Harry Potter fan account spreading misinformation about her family. Wizarding News, the 22-year-old site in question, tweeted on March 19, 2024, "Reminder that JK Rowling's eldest daughter (the one with whom she was famously pregnant while writing Harry Potter) changed her last name to literally get away from Rowling and moved to Portugal."

The author hit back in another post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "Lying about my kids is a new low, even by this website’s subterranean standards."

Wizarding News continued to double down, this time claiming that Rowling had secret grandkids. "Did you know? JK Rowling is a grandmother. Have any of you ever seen her talk about grandchildren?"

"Again, completely false, @wizardingnews," Rowling said. "I have no grandchildren. What are you gaining by posting these lies?"

To make matters worse (and potentially dangerous), Wizarding News posted photos of a baby claiming it was Rowling's grandchild, complete with location details, according to the group For Women Scotland. The organization asked, "If that child was kidnapped because of their lies, would they accept responsibility? Because the poor woman they are doxxing probably has no clue they are targeting her!"

Wizarding News deleted the posts, but who knew what could have happened to those strangers? What if they were attacked by an angry mob? Rowling understands the gravity of the situation, and she demands a retraction and apology from the fan site or face a lawsuit. "This is not a joke. The baby and its mother have no connection with me, @wizardingnews," Rowling tweeted. "That isn’t my daughter. Your vendetta against me is causing collateral damage to innocent people. If legal action is the only way to protect them, I will take it."

WizardingNews does not stop there, entertaining fake news that alleges a woman named Jessica Arantes is Rowling's daughter. "@wizardingnews No real apology, no retraction, continuing to insinuate I’m lying," Rowling said. "This is not my daughter. Are you so deluded you imagine I’d deny something so easily proven, if true? Your behaviour is not only despicable but dangerous."

In another tweet, Rowling wrote, "Lawyers are on it. I’m done."

However, the fan site seemingly apologized yesterday and wrote, "We are unreservedly sorry... to JK Rowling's eldest daughter... for understandably mixing her up with a VERY coincidentally named person found in multiple published online articles & biographies identifying her as such, and extrapolating & sharing inaccurate details therefrom."

Despite the mainstream media's attack on Rowling's stance on transgenderism and advocation for women's spaces, the author continues to stand her ground.
