In a recent roundtable interview with Variety, Rachel Zegler opened up to Andrew Garfield about people's feedback on her new role as Snow White. Not everyone was happy with her becoming this Disney princess in the live-action remake – and apparently it was because of Rachel's race.

Rachel Zegler Talked about the Backlash

Rachel talked about how excited she was to step into the shoes of Snow White. "Never in a million years did I imagine that this would be a possibility for me," she gushed. "You don't normally see Snow Whites that are of Latin descent." She said this is odd considering how popular Snow White is in "Spanish-speaking countries."

But the news was met with some criticism. "When it was announced, it was a huge thing that was trending on Twitter for days," she said. "Because all of the people were angry."

"Ah, those people. The people that we need to educate," Andrew responded. "The people that we need to love into awareness." Rachel agreed and said, "We need to love them in the right direction."

Rachel Is Still Excited to Play the Role of Snow White

The ever-smiling actress still maintains her excitement over the role of the Disney princess. “At the end of the day, I have a job to do that I’m really excited to do. I get to be a Latina princess," she concluded.

While West Side Story may not have been a huge success at the box office, Rachel's lead role captured the hearts of many viewers across the world and surely those audiences are looking forward to seeing her play Snow White.

The remake of Snow White is set to release in 2023.
